예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 내 교훈은 내 것이 아니요 나를 보내신 이의 것이니라 (요한복음 7:16)

사람이 하나님의 뜻을 행하려 하면 이 교훈이 하나님께로서 왔는지 내가 스스로 말함인지 알리라 (요한복음 7:17)

스스로 말하는 자는 자기 영광만 구하되 보내신 이의 영광을 구하는 자는 참되니 그 속에 불의가 없느니라 (요한복음 7:18)

서론: 초막절의 갈등과 영적 분별의 열쇠

오늘 우리가 함께 묵상하는 요한복음 7장은 이스라엘의 세 가지 주요 순례 절기 중 하나인 초막절(Sukkot)을 그 배경으로 하고 있습니다.John 7, which we’re reflecting on together today, takes place during the Feast of Booths (Sukkot), one of Israel’s three major pilgrimage festivals.

초막절은 과거 이스라엘 백성들이 광야의 척박한 땅에서 장막에 거하며 하나님의 신실하신 인도하심과 만나의 공급, 그리고 구름 기둥과 불 기둥의 보호하심을 경험했던 것을 기념하는 절기입니다.Sukkot is a holiday that remembers how, in the harsh wilderness, the people of Israel lived in temporary shelters and experienced God’s faithful guidance—His provision of manna, and His protection through the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire.

또한 한 해의 풍성한 수확을 허락하신 하나님께 감사하며 축하하는 최대의 기쁨의 축제이기도 합니다.It is also a joyful celebration of thanking God for the rich harvest of the year—one of the happiest festivals.

사실 광야에서 만나를 내리신 하나님의 은혜를 기억하고 기뻐하는 이 축제는, 살아계신 생명의 산 떡이신 우리 주님이 자신을 나타내시기에는 너무나도 어울리는 영적인 무대였습니다.In fact, this festival—where people remembered and rejoiced over God’s grace in sending manna in the wilderness—was the perfect spiritual setting for our Lord, the living Bread from heaven, to reveal Himself.

그러나 역설적으로, 하나님의 신실하신 은혜를 노래하며 메시아를 통해 임할 영원한 생명과 구원을 갈망해야 할 이 거룩한 축제의 현장은 생명의 주인이신 예수 그리스도의 정체성을 둘러싼 날 선 공방과 극심한 영적 분열의 한복판이 되었습니다.Yet ironically, the very place that should have been filled with praise for God’s faithful grace, and with longing for the eternal life and salvation the Messiah would bring, became the center of sharp conflict and deep spiritual division over the true identity of Jesus Christ, the Lord of life.

당시 유대의 분위기는 살벌하기 그지없었습니다.At that time, the atmosphere in Judea was incredibly tense and dangerous.

유대 당국자들은 이미 예수를 죽이려 기회를 엿보며 예루살렘 곳곳에 감시의 눈길을 보내고 있었습니다.The Jewish authorities were already looking for a chance to kill Jesus, and they had eyes watching throughout Jerusalem.

성경은 당시의 긴박한 상황을 이렇게 기록합니다. “이 후에 예수께서 갈릴리에서 다니시고 유대에서 다니려 아니하심은 유대인들이 죽이려 함이러라”(요 7:1).The Bible describes the urgency of the situation like this: “After this, Jesus went about in Galilee. He would not go about in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill him” (John 7:1).

명절을 지키러 온 군중들 사이에서도 혼란은 가중되었습니다.Even among the crowds who came to keep the feast, the confusion only grew.

“예수께 대하여 무리 중에서 수군거림이 많아 혹은 좋은 사람이라 하며 혹은 아니라 무리를 미혹하게 한다 하나”(요 7:12).“Yet there was much muttering about him among the people. While some said, ‘He is a good man,’ others said, ‘No, he is leading the people astray’” (John 7:12).

이처럼 생명의 주관자를 앞에 두고도 사람들은 그를 평가의 대상으로만 여겼고 주님을 향해 나아오는 영혼들은 드물었습니다.Like this, even with the Lord of life right in front of them, people treated Him as nothing more than someone to judge and debate. Very few were actually coming to Him with faith.

심지어 예수님의 가장 가까운 가족인 형제들조차 영적으로 매우 어두운 상태에 있었습니다.Even Jesus’ own brothers—His closest family—were spiritually in a very dark place.

그들은 예수님에게 세속적인 명성을 얻기 위해 “당신의 행하는 일을 제자들도 보게 여기를 떠나 유대로 가소서... 스스로 나타나기를 구하면서 묻혀서 일하는 사람이 없나니 이 일을 행하려 하거든 자신을 세상에 나타내소서”(요 7:3-4)라고 재촉합니다.They pushed Him to chase worldly fame, saying, “Leave here and go to Judea, so that your disciples also may see the works you are doing… No one works in secret if he seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world” (John 7:3–4).

그들은 예수님이 대중의 인기를 얻고 세속적인 영웅이 되기를 바랐지만, 성경은 “이는 그 형제들이라도 예수를 믿지 아니함이러라”(요 7:5)라고 그들의 영적인 비극을 고발합니다.They wanted Jesus to gain popularity and become a kind of worldly hero. But Scripture exposes the tragedy behind their words: “For not even his brothers believed in him” (John 7:5).

그들의 마음은 철저히 세상의 성공과 자기 영광에 고정되어 있었기에, 예수님의 숭고한 신적 사역과 하나님의 때(Kairos)를 도무지 이해할 수 없었습니다.Their hearts were completely fixed on earthly success and their own glory, so they could not understand Jesus’ holy, divine mission—or God’s perfect timing (kairos).

이 거대한 혼란과 불신의 소용돌이 속에서, 예수께서는 성전의 중심에서 가르치시며 영적 지식의 새로운 지평을 여십니다.In the middle of this huge whirlwind of confusion and unbelief, Jesus teaches in the very center of the temple and opens up a whole new horizon of spiritual understanding.

“내 교훈은 내 것이 아니요 나를 보내신 이의 것이니라 사람이 하나님의 뜻을 행하려 하면 이 교훈이 하나님께로서 왔는지 내가 스스로 말함인지 알리라”(요 7:16-17).“My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority” (John 7:16–17).

예수님은 진리를 깨닫지 못하는 근본 원인이 정보의 부족이나 지능의 문제가 아니라, 하나님의 뜻에 순종하려는 마음이 없는 인간 의지의 ‘부정합’, 즉 그 방향이 하나님이 아닌 자기 자신을 향해 잘못 설정되어 있음에 있음을 단호히 선언하십니다.Jesus firmly declares that the real reason people don’t grasp the truth is not because they lack information or intelligence. It’s because their will is “out of alignment”—they have no heart to obey God’s will. Their inner direction is set wrong, aimed not toward God, but toward themselves.

본 설교는 요한복음 7장을 분석하여 우리가 어떻게 경건의 모양 뒤에 숨겨진 ‘자기 영광’(요 7:18)의 감옥을 깨뜨리고, ‘하나님의 영광’을 구하는 결단된 의지를 가질 수 있는지 살펴보고자 합니다.This sermon looks closely at John 7 to explore how we can break out of the prison of “seeking our own glory” (John 7:18)—a prison that can hide behind a religious appearance—and instead develop a firm, decided will to seek God’s glory.

명절 끝날 주님께서 외치신 그 위대한 약속을 따라, 우리의 배에서 ‘생수의 강’(요 7:38)이 흘러나오는 신령한 통합의 삶으로 여러분을 안내하고자 하며.Following the great promise Jesus cried out at the end of the feast, I want to guide you into a life of spiritual wholeness and unity, where “rivers of living water” (John 7:38) flow from deep within you.

본론

I. 영적 분별력의 전제: 하나님의 뜻을 향한 '결단된 의지' (요 7:17)

본문 17절에서 예수님은 인류의 보편적인 인식론을 뒤흔드는 충격적인 선언을 하십니다.In verse 17, Jesus makes a shocking statement that turns the normal way humans think about knowledge upside down:

“사람이 하나님의 뜻을 행하려 하면 이 교훈이 하나님께로서 왔는지 내가 스스로 말함인지 알리라.”“If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether this teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own.”

이 말씀은 우리가 진리를 깨닫는 것이 단순히 지능의 높낮이나 학문적 탐구의 결과가 아니라, 우리 ‘의지의 방향성’에 달려 있음을 천명합니다.This means that understanding the truth is not simply the result of having a high IQ or doing deep academic research. It depends on the direction of our will.

그러니까 우리가 진심으로 하나님의 뜻을 행하고자 하면, 행하면이 아닙니다, 아직 행하지 않았다고 하더라도, 하나님의 뜻을 행하고자 마음을 먹으면, 행하고자 하는 의지가 있으면, 행하고자 하는 열망이 있다면, 주님의 말씀이 혹은 우리가 하려는 어떠한 일이 과연 하나님의 뜻인지 알 수 있다는 말씀이기 때문입니다.In other words, if we truly want to do God’s will—notice, Jesus doesn’t say only after you’ve already done it. Even if you haven’t obeyed perfectly yet, if you make up your mind to do God’s will, if you have the desire and longing to obey, then you will be able to recognize whether the Lord’s words—and even the things you’re trying to do—are truly God’s will.

의지의 양(Quantity)이 아닌 방향(Direction)

그렇습니다, 영적 분별력이 없는 근본 원인은 우리에게 하나님에 대한, 하나님의 말씀에 대한 정보가 부족해서가 아니라, 이미 우리 의지가 ‘하나님의 뜻을 따르지 않기로’ 방향을 정했기 때문입니다.Yes—that’s exactly right. The deepest reason we lack spiritual discernment is not that we don’t have enough information about God or about Scripture. It’s that our will has already chosen a direction: “I will not follow God’s will.”

본문에 사용된 헬라어 구절 ‘ἐάν τις θέλῃ’(에안 티스 델레)에서 그러니까 누구라도 하나님의 뜻을 행하고자 한다면의 본문에서 θέλῃ’(델레)의 원형인 ‘델로(θέλω)’는 일시적인 감정이나 단순한 소망이 아닙니다. 그것은 ‘확고하게 결정된 결단’, 즉 어떤 대가를 치르더라도 하나님의 뜻을 따르겠다는 ‘해결된 의지’를 의미합니다.In this passage, the Greek phrase “ἐάν τις θέλῃ” (ean tis thelē) means, “If anyone wants to do [God’s will].” But the verb θέλῃ (thelē), from θέλω (thelō), is not describing a temporary emotion or a casual wish. It points to a firm decision—a resolved will that says, “No matter the cost, I will follow God’s will.”

그러니까 누구라도 배웠던 못 배웠던, 지체가 높던 비천하던 나이가 많던 적던 그 누구라도 하나님의 뜻을 행하고자 하는 열망이 있다면 하나님의 뜻이 어디에 임했는지 알 수 있다는 말씀 입니다.That means anyone—educated or uneducated, high or low in status, young or old—if they truly have that desire to do God’s will, can recognize where God’s will is and what it is.

그 만큼 하나님의 뜻이 우리와 가깝다는 말씀 이시고 또 하나님의 관심이 우리위에 계시다는 것을 말씀하시는 것이기도 합니다.It also tells us how close God’s will is to us, and how much God’s attention is on our lives.

예수님은 바로 이 의지의 정렬 그러니까 진정으로 내 자신이 하나님을 따르고 하나님의 뜻을 이루고자 하는가 하는것이 진리를 볼 수있는 ‘영적인 눈’이 된다고 말씀하시는 것입니다.Jesus is saying that this alignment of the will—this honest question, “Do I truly want to follow God and carry out His will?”—becomes the spiritual eyes that enable us to see the truth.

나침반의 바늘이 북극을 향해 고정될 때 항해사가 길을 찾듯, 우리의 의지가 우리의 속 사람이 하나님의 영광이라는 북극성을 향해 정렬될 때 비로소 하나님의 교훈이 우리 영혼에 ‘진리’로써 또 나의 행동 강령으로 읽히기 시작하는 것입니다.Just like a navigator can find the way when a compass needle is fixed toward the North Pole, when our will—our inner person—is aligned toward the “North Star” of God’s glory, then God’s teaching begins to be read in our soul as truth, and as the guiding principle for how we live.

순종의 역설: 나를 죽여 생명을 얻는 길

세상의 지혜는 자신의 의지를 발휘하여 권리를 쟁취하고 자아를 실현하는 것이 가장 자기를 위하는 길이라고 가르칩니다.Worldly wisdom teaches that the best way to take care of yourself is to use your own will—claim your rights and “fulfill yourself.”

그러나 성경은 정반대의 역설을 제시합니다.But the Bible gives the opposite paradox.

내 뜻이 아니라 하나님의 뜻을 이루려 할 때라야 하나님의 뜻 그러니까 우리주님이 우리를 행해 펼치시는 구원과 영생의 뜻이 이루어진다고 하시기 때문입니다.It says that only when we stop trying to carry out our will and instead seek to carry out God’s will, God’s will is accomplished—meaning, the will of our Lord that brings us salvation and eternal life.

나의 뜻과는 비교도 할 수 없이 거대하고 원대하신 하나님의 뜻이 있고 우리가 나의 뜻을 내려놓고 그 하나님의 뜻을 이루고자 한다면 우리에게 구원과 영생이 이루어 진다는 것을 성경이 말씀하시는 것입니다.There is a will of God that is far bigger and greater than anything we could ever plan for ourselves. And if we lay down our will and choose to pursue His will, Scripture says that salvation and eternal life become real in us.

그러므로 내 의지를 하나님의 뜻에 굴복시키는 것이 사실은 ‘가장 나를 위하는 유일한 길’입니다.That is why surrendering my will to God’s will is actually the only truly “self-loving” path.

우리가 내 뜻을 고집하며 삶의 주인이 되려 할 때, 우리는 필연적으로 결핍과 경쟁, 그리고 끝없는 불안이라는 ‘생존 모드’에 갇히게 됩니다, 그러니까 생존하기 위해 살아가는 짐승과 다를것이 없게 살게되는 것입니다.When we stubbornly hold on to our own will and try to be the owner of our lives, we inevitably get trapped in “survival mode”—a life driven by lack, competition, and endless anxiety. In other words, we end up living not much differently from an animal that lives only to survive.

하지만 “내 뜻이 아니라 주님의 뜻”을 선택하며 영원한 가치를 따르려 할 때, 우리는 죽음을 넘어선 영원한 생명을 상급으로 얻게 되며 우리의 인생에 임하시는 진정한 의미와 기쁨과 평강을 누리게 되는 것입니다..But when we choose, “Not my will, but the Lord’s will,” and follow what has eternal value, we receive eternal life that goes beyond death as our reward. And we begin to enjoy the true meaning, joy, and peace that come into our lives.

순종은 결코 우리를 억압하는 사슬이 아닙니다.Obedience is never a chain meant to crush us.

오히려 하나님의 뜻을 향한 그리고 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 뜻을 향한 순종은 우리로 하여금 우리의 삶이 지니는 ‘초월적 의미’를 발견하게 하여, 생존의 불안을 넘어서게하는 진정한 자유와 풍성한 삶으로 나아가게 하는 ‘생명의 열쇠’인 것입니다.Instead, obedience toward God’s will—and toward the will of our Lord Jesus Christ—helps us discover the transcendent meaning of our lives. It becomes the key of life that lifts us above the anxiety of survival and leads us into real freedom and a full, overflowing life.

유대 지도자들의 비극

그러나 이런 진리의 길을 가르치시던 우리 주님과 늘 부딪히던 바리새인들을 포함한 유대의 지도자들이 있습니다.But there were Jewish leaders—including the Pharisees—who constantly clashed with our Lord as He taught this path of truth.

당시 유대 지도자들은 인간적인 의지가 누구보다 강력했던 사람들입니다.In many ways, the Jewish leaders of that time had incredibly strong human willpower.

그들은 하나님의 법을 지키기 위해 밤낮으로 애썼고, 엄청난 종교적 열심을 발휘했습니다.They worked day and night to keep God’s law, showing intense religious passion.

그러나 그들의 비극은 그 강력한 의지의 방향이 ‘하나님의 뜻’이 아닌 ‘자기 영광’에 고정되어 있었다는 점입니다.Yet their tragedy was this: the direction of their strong will was not fixed on God’s will, but on their own glory.

그들은 율법이라는 명분을 빌려 자신의 거룩함과 우월함을 증명하려 했습니다.Using the law as a cover, they tried to prove their own holiness and superiority.

자신들은 언제나 하나님의 뜻을 지키고 사는 거룩한 사람들이라는 것을 언제나 남들이 알 수 있도록 자신을 드러냈습니다.They made sure other people could always see how “holy” they were—so everyone would know they were the ones who supposedly lived by God’s will.

하지만 그것은 하나님이 원하시던 우리의 뜻을 내려놓고 진정으로 하나님의 뜻이 그러니까 정의와 사랑이 이뤄지기를 바라는 것과는 너무나 달랐던 것입니다.But that was very different from what God actually desired: that we would lay down our own will and truly long for God’s will to be done—His justice and His love.

이처럼 방향이 틀린 열심은 생명의 주인을 대적하고 정죄하는 독소가 됩니다.When zeal is pointed in the wrong direction, it becomes poison. It can turn into something that resists and condemns the Lord of life Himself.

그들은 하나님을 위한다고 말했지만, 정작 하나님께서 보내신 분의 말씀을 들을 의지가 없었기에 진리를 눈앞에 두고도 예수님을 향해 “귀신이 들렸다”고 조롱하며 어둠 속에 머물렀습니다.They claimed they were serving God, but they had no willingness to listen to the One God had sent. So even with the truth right in front of them, they mocked Jesus and said, “He has a demon,” choosing to remain in the darkness.

그러므로 오늘 우리는 우리의 열심이 과연 누구의 영광을 향하고 있는지 정직하게 물어야 합니다.So today we must ask ourselves honestly: What is my zeal really aiming at? Whose glory am I seeking?

II. 영적 눈을 가리는 장애물: 경건의 탈을 쓴 '자기 영광'의 추구 (요 7:18)

예수님은 본문 18절에서 영적 분별력을 가로막는 가장 치명적인 독소를 폭로하십니다.In verse 18, Jesus exposes the most deadly poison that blocks spiritual discernment.

성경은 말씀 하십니다.

스스로 말하는 자는 자기 영광만 구하되 보내신 이의 영광을 구하는 자는 참되니 그 속에 불의가 없느니라 (요 7:18)“The one who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory; but the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no unrighteousness” (John 7:18).

그렇습니다 그 치명적인 독소는 바로 ‘자기 영광’입니다.Yes—the deadly poison is “self-glory.”

“스스로 말하는 자는 자기 영광만 구하되 보내신 이의 영광을 구하는 자는 참되니...”“The one who speaks on his own… seeks his own glory…”

당시 바리새인들은 율법의 전문가였고 누구보다 경건해 보였지만, 실상은 그 경건을 발판 삼아 자신의 사회적 지위와 우월함을 확인받으려 했습니다.The Pharisees were experts in the law and looked more religious than anyone else. But in reality, they were using that religious image as a stepping-stone to secure recognition—social status, superiority, and praise.

주님이 “어찌하여 나를 죽이려 하느냐”고 물으셨을 때 그들은 “귀신이 들렸다”며 잡아뗐습니다.When Jesus asked, “Why are you seeking to kill me?” they brushed it off by saying, “You have a demon.”

하지만 주님을 포함한 온 예루살렘이 그들의 살인 계획을 알고 있었습니다.But everyone in Jerusalem—including Jesus—knew about their plan to kill Him.

이것이 자기 기만의 무서운 힘입니다.That is the frightening power of self-deception:

온 세상이 알고있는 사실을 얼굴색하나 변하지 않고 딱 잡아떼면서 예수님을 귀신들린 미친사람으로 몰아가는 것to deny what the whole world knows, without even changing your expression, and then to turn around and paint Jesus as a crazy, demon-possessed man.

이런 사람들이 세상에 있다는 것이 무서운 일이 아니겠습니까?Isn’t it terrifying that people like that can exist in the world?

바리새인의 비극은 그들에게 ‘정직한 자각’이 없었다는 점입니다.The tragedy of the Pharisees was that they had no honest self-awareness.

심리학적으로 이를 ‘오도된 자각’이라 부릅니다.In psychological terms, you could call it misguided self-awareness—a distorted kind of “insight” that points outward but never turns inward.

이들은 타인의 허물은 현미경처럼 들여다보면서도 자기 수염에 묻은 냄새나는 치즈는 보지 못하는 사람과 같습니다.They were like someone who examines other people’s faults with a microscope, yet can’t see the smelly cheese stuck in his own beard. They complain that the whole world stinks, but the smell is coming from right under their own nose.

우리가 하나님의 뜻을 이룬다면서도 늘 갈등과 분노에 휩싸여 있다면, 혹시 내 영광이라는 우상을 지키려다 영적 후각이 마비된 것은 아닌지 정직하게 물어야 합니다.So if we say we are doing God’s will, but we are constantly being swept up in conflict and anger, we need to ask ourselves honestly: Am I actually defending an idol called “my glory”—and has my spiritual sense of smell been numbed because of it?

이 덫에서 벗어나기 위해 우리는 ‘영적 객관화’의 훈련이 필요합니다.To break free from this trap, we need training in “spiritual objectivity.”

마치 창문 너머 풍경을 보듯 나 자신을 분리해서 바라보는 것입니다.It’s like looking at a view through a window—separating yourself a little and watching your own heart from the outside.

"지금 하나님의 일을 하고 있다고 말하는 이 사람(나 자신)이 정말 하나님의 영광을 구하는가, 아니면 유능함을 인정받으려는 욕심인가?"를 제3자의 눈으로 관찰해 보십시오.Try observing yourself with a third-person perspective: “Right now, this person (me) says they’re doing God’s work. But am I truly seeking God’s glory? Or am I chasing the desire to be seen as capable, to be recognized?”

내가 주체가 되어 몰입할 때는 보이지 않던 추악한 동기들이, 제3자의 위치에서 나를 반추할 때 비로소 드러나기 시작합니다.When we’re fully absorbed as the main character, those ugly motives often stay hidden. But when we step back and reflect on ourselves from a third-person position, they finally start to show themselves.

하나님은 이 훈련을 돕기 위해 ‘관계’라는 거울을 주셨습니다.God helps us practice this by giving us a mirror called relationships.

부부나 가족, 가까운 동료 사이의 의견 대립은 나의 ‘영적 사각지대’를 비추는 축복의 기회입니다.Disagreements with a spouse, family members, or close coworkers can be a blessing because they shine light on our spiritual blind spots.

반려자가 지적하는 나의 고집스러운 모습은, 내가 보지 못했던 진짜 나의 동기를 발견하게 하는 하나님의 거울입니다.When your spouse points out your stubbornness, that can become God’s mirror—showing you the real motives inside you that you didn’t notice.

타인이 말해주는 불편한 진실을 통해 나를 반추하고, 성령의 도우심을 받아 나의 동기를 정화해 나가는 것이 진정한 영성 훈련입니다.Real spiritual training is this: receiving the uncomfortable truth that others tell us, reflecting on ourselves through it, and—through the Holy Spirit’s help—slowly cleansing and reshaping our motives.

그러나 결국 진정한 객관화는 성령의 조명 아래 설 때만 완성됩니다.But in the end, true objectivity is only completed when we stand under the light of the Holy Spirit.

주님 앞에 단독자로 서서 정직하게 물을 때, 우리 안의 '자기 숭배' 우상이 무너지고 참된 변화가 시작됩니다.When we stand alone before the Lord and ask honestly, the idol of self-worship inside us begins to collapse, and real change starts.

외모가 아닌 공의의 판단으로 나를 직면할 때, 우리는 비로소 자기 영광의 감옥을 뚫고 하나님의 거룩한 뜻 안으로 걸어 들어갈 수 있습니다.When we face ourselves with a just judgment—not based on appearance—we can finally break through the prison of self-glory and step into God’s holy will.

그 모습을 잘 보여주는 것이 바로 다윗의 시편입니다.David’s psalm shows this clearly.

성경은 말씀 하십니다.

내 영혼아 여호와를 송축하라 내 속에 있는 것들아 다 그 성호를 송축하라 (시편 103:1)“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” (Psalm 103:1)

내 영혼아 여호와를 송축하며 그 모든 은택을 잊지 말찌어다 (시편 103:2)“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,” (Psalm 103:2)

저가 네 모든 죄악을 사하시며 네 모든 병을 고치시며 (시편 103:3)“who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,” (Psalm 103:3)

네 생명을 파멸에서 구속하시고 인자와 긍휼로 관을 씌우시며 (시편 103:4)“who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,” (Psalm 103:4)

좋은 것으로 네 소원을 만족케 하사 네 청춘으로 독수리 같이 새롭게 하시는도다 (시편 103:5)“who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalm 103:5)

여호와께서 의로운 일을 행하시며 압박 당하는 모든 자를 위하여 판단하시는도다 (시편 103:6)“The LORD works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.” (Psalm 103:6)

아마도 인생의 말년에 다윗이 지은것으로 보인 이 시에는 다윗이 자신의 속사람이 어떻게 하나님을 잘 찬양하나 지켜보는것에서 멈추는 것이 아니라 적극적으로 자신의 속사람에게 하나님을 찬양할 것을 명령하는 모습을 보이고 있습니다.This psalm—likely written by David near the end of his life—shows something powerful. David doesn’t stop at quietly watching his inner self and checking whether his heart is praising God. He goes further: he actively commands his inner self to praise the Lord.

묵묵히 자신의 속사람을 관찰하다 이제는 말을 걸고 나아가야 할 방향을 가르키고 말을 거는 것입니다.He has been observing his soul in silence, but now he speaks to it. He points it in the right direction.

아니 말을 걸다못해 하나님이 어떻게 나를 이끄셨나 고치시고 구원하셨나 가르치고 하나님을 찬양할 것을 명령하는 것입니다.He doesn’t just “talk to himself”—he teaches his soul, reminding it how God has led him, healed him, and saved him, and then he orders his soul to praise.

우리가 요동하는 세상에서 같이 요동하는 나의 마음을 주체하지 못해 하나님앞에서 실수를 하고 말과 행동으로 죄를 범하는 것과는 달리This is very different from how we often live. In a shaking world, our hearts shake with it. We can’t control ourselves, we stumble before God, and we end up sinning with our words and actions.

다윗은 담담하게 자신의 속사람에게 명령을 하는 것입니다.But David speaks calmly and firmly to his soul:

내 영혼아 여호와를 송축하라 내 속에 있는 것들아 다 그 성호를 송축하라, 동이 서에서 먼 것 같이 우리 죄과를 우리에게서 멀리신 하나님을 찬양하라!“O my soul, bless the LORD! All that is within me, bless his holy name. Praise the God who has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from the west!”

진토에 불과한 우리가 풀같은 날들로 가득한 인생을 살아가는 그 말년에 바람이 줄면 사라지는 아무도 기억하지 못하는 들 꽃과 같은 인생의 말년에At the end of life—when we realize we are only dust, and our days are like grass, like a wildflower in the field that disappears when the wind passes—David, by the Holy Spirit’s help, understands something deeper:

다윗은 성령의 도우심으로 여호와의 인자하심은 자기를 경외하는 자에게 영원부터 영원까지 이르며 그의 의는 자손의 자손에게 미치는 것을 깨닫고The LORD’s steadfast love reaches “from everlasting to everlasting” for those who fear Him, and His righteousness reaches to children’s children.

하나님을 찬양할 것을 자신과 자신의 속사람에게 강하게 명령하는 것입니다.So he commands himself—his inner person—strongly: Praise the Lord.

이것이 성령의 도우심으로 우리가 얻을 수 있는 강력한 영적인 깨달음이요 나아갈 길인 것입니다.This is the strong spiritual insight and direction we can receive through the Holy Spirit’s help.

나를 살리시고 이끄신 하나님의 은혜를 깨달으며 죽는 날까지 하나님을 찬양할 수 있는 비밀을 다윗이 보여주는 것입니다.David is showing us the secret: recognizing the grace of God who saved and carried him, and learning how to praise God faithfully all the way to the day we die.

III. 통합된 삶의 결실: 일상을 적시는 '생수의 강' (요 7:37-38)

예수님은 초막절의 절정인 끝날에 생명의 목소리를 높이셨습니다.On the climax of the Feast of Booths—the last and greatest day—Jesus raised His voice with the message of life.

성경은 말씀 하십니다.

명절 끝날 곧 큰날에 예수께서 서서 외쳐 가라사대 누구든지 목마르거든 내게로 와서 마시라 (요한복음 7:37)“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.’” (John 7:37)

나를 믿는 자는 성경에 이름과 같이 그 배에서 생수의 강이 흘러나리라 하시니 (요한복음 7:38)“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his belly will flow rivers of living water.’” (John 7:38)

이 ‘생수의 강’은 우리가 하나님의 뜻에 의지를 정렬하고 삶을 통합할 때 누리게 되는 축복의 실체, 즉 성령의 충만한 임재를 상징합니다.This “river of living water” points to the real blessing we receive when we align our will with God’s will and our whole life becomes integrated—the full, overflowing presence of the Holy Spirit.

하나님의 뜻과 나의 일상이 하나로 합쳐질 때, 우리의 내면에서는 세상이 줄 수 없는 신령한 힘이 솟구치게 됩니다.When God’s will and our everyday life become one, a spiritual strength rises up inside us—something the world can’t give.

우리가 나의 뜻이 아닌 하나님의 뜻을 이루기 위한 삶을 살아가며 다윗과 같이 성령의 도우심으로 우리의 속사람을 명해 하나님을 찬양하는 삶의 비밀을 깨닫게 되면And when we live not for our own will but for God’s will, and like David—by the Spirit’s help—we learn the secret of commanding our inner self to praise God, then a real change begins inside us.

우리의 속에서 변화가 일어나는 데 그것이 바로 우리안에서 죽음이 용을 쓰는것이 아닌 생명의 역사가 일어나기 시작한다는 것입니다.It means death is no longer the power at work within us. Life begins to move. God’s work of life starts to rise up from the inside.

하나님을 향한 감사와 경배가 터져나오는 기적의 삶을 살게 되는 것입니다.We begin to live a miracle-like life where gratitude and worship burst out of us.

비록 몸은 늙었고 아프고 연약하나 성령이 일깨워주시는 감사의 역사가 용솟음치는 것입니다.Even if our bodies are old, sick, and weak, the Holy Spirit awakens a wellspring of thanksgiving within us.

나의 인생은 들풀처럼 바람만 불면 사라질 것이 아니라 영원에서 영원에 이르는 영원한 생명의 구원을 얻을 것임을 감사하며 확신하게 되는 것입니다.We become confident and grateful that our life is not just like grass that disappears when the wind blows, but that we will receive a salvation of eternal life that stretches from everlasting to everlasting.

그 생수의 강이 내 배에서 터져나오게 되는 하나님의 역사하심의 시작이 오늘 우리가 살펴본 하나님의 뜻을 행하기로 마음을 먹는 것입니다.And the beginning of God’s work—where that river of living water starts to burst out from within us—is this: making up our mind to do God’s will.

그러면 그 때부터 성령이 도우셔서 우리의 삶에 하나님의 역사하심이 일어나게 되는 것입니다.Then from that point on, the Holy Spirit helps us, and God’s living work begins to unfold in our everyday life.

성경은 이렇게 유대인의 지도자들이 예수님을 죽이고자 결의를 다지며 사사건건 주님을 방해하며 훼방하는 초막절의 모습을 잘 그리고 있습니다.Scripture paints a vivid picture of what the Feast of Booths was like: the Jewish leaders were strengthening their resolve to kill Jesus, blocking Him at every turn, and constantly attacking Him.

하지만 그럼에도 주님을 믿게된 많은 사람들이 있었음을 역시 그리시고 계십니다.But at the same time, the Bible also shows that many people still came to believe in Him.

이게 얼마나 놀라운 일입니까?How amazing is that?

그 살벌한 분위기 속에서도 우리 주님을 믿고 따르는 역사가 일어났는데 그것도 많은 사람들이 믿었다는 것입니다.Even in that brutal, threatening atmosphere, a work of faith happened—so much so that many believed and followed the Lord.

그렇습니다. 세상의 악이 아무리 강해보이고 우리가 사는 세상이 희망이 없어 보여도 그 안에서 역사하시는 하나님의 생명의 역사를 막을 수 없습니다.Yes. No matter how powerful the evil of the world looks, and no matter how hopeless the world around us seems, it cannot stop God’s life-giving work that is happening within it.

우리가 이런 어두운 세상에서 빛이 되시는 주님의 뜻을 찾고 또 누리기 위해서는 먼저 우리가 주님의 뜻을 행하기로 결단을 해야하는 것을 본문은 증거하십니다.And this passage testifies that if we want to find and enjoy the Lord’s will—He who is the light in this dark world—then first we must make a decision: we must resolve to do the Lord’s will.

우리가 진정으로 주님의 뜻을 이루고자 할 때 하나님의 뜻이 무엇인지 알게 되고When we truly desire to carry out the Lord’s will, we come to know what God’s will is.

하나님의 뜻을 알게되면 우리가 순종할 수 있고When we know God’s will, we can obey.

우리가 하나님의 뜻에 순종할 때 하나님의 역사하심이 그러니까 우리의 배에서 생수의 강이 흘러 넘칠 것이기 때문입니다.And when we obey God’s will, God’s work happens—meaning, rivers of living water will overflow from within us.

결론: 하나님의 영광에 항복하는 삶

사랑하는 형제자매 여러분Beloved brothers and sisters,

오늘 요한복음 7장의 말씀은 우리에게 단 하나의 근원적인 질문을 던집니다. “당신의 마음은 지금 어디를 향하고 있습니까?”today John 7 asks us one basic, foundational question: “Where is your heart pointed right now?”

우리는 스스로를 구원할 수 없는 진토와 같고, 한때 피었다가 사라지는 들꽃과 같은 존재입니다.We are like dust—unable to save ourselves. We are like a wildflower that blooms for a moment and then disappears.

우리가 스스로 세운 삶의 계획, 나의 평판, 나의 성공이라는 ‘자기 영광’의 작은 성을 지키려 애쓰는 것은 결국 더 깊은 갈증과 허무만을 낳을 뿐입니다.So when we struggle to protect the small “castle” of self-glory—our plans, our reputation, our success—it ends up producing only deeper thirst and emptiness.

이 모든것은 이 세상이 인간의 죄로 타락하게 된 이유이지만 하지만 이렇게 허무한 삶만을 하나님이 인간들에게 허락 하셨을까요?Yes, this kind of emptiness is connected to the way the world fell into corruption through human sin. But did God only allow human beings to live a life that is this meaningless?

성경은 그렇지 않다고 말씀 하십니다.The Bible says no.

하나님을 경외하는 사람들 그러니까 하나님의 자녀들의 삶은 물가에 심겨진 나무와 같이 풍요롭고 축복이 넘치는 삶을 주신다고 약속하신 것입니다.God promises that those who fear Him—His children—will be given a life that is rich and blessed, like a tree planted by streams of water.

그렇다면 우리는 어떻게 이렇게 축복받은 삶을 살 수 있겠습니까?So then, how can we live that blessed life?

거기에 대한 대답이 바로 오늘의 본문이 질문하시는 우리의 마음이 어디를 향하고 있는가 하는 것입니다.The answer is exactly what today’s passage is pressing us to face: Where is our heart aimed? What direction is our will set toward?

진정한 지혜와 행복은 나의 뻣뻣한 목을 숙여 하나님의 영광 앞에 겸손히 항복하는 것입니다.True wisdom and real happiness come when we lower our stiff necks and humbly surrender before God’s glory.

아니 나의 마음이 주님의 마음과 같아져서 주님이 원하시는 것을 나도 원하고 주님이 미워하시는 것은 나도 미워하게 되는 것입니다.Not just “giving in,” but letting our hearts become like the Lord’s—so that what the Lord desires, we also desire, and what the Lord hates, we also learn to hate.

그리고 무엇보다도 나 스스로 주님이 원하시고 사랑하시는 뜻을 나도 이루고자 하는 마음을 지니는 것입니다.And more than anything, it means having a heart that wants to carry out the will the Lord loves and wants.

사랑하는 사람을 위해 그 사람이 원하는 것을 해주고 싶은 것처럼 나도 주님이 원하시는 뜻을 하고자 하는 마음을 가지는 것입니다.Just like when you love someone, you naturally want to do what makes them happy, we come to want to do what the Lord wants.

우리가 주님을 향한 진정으로 주님을 사랑하는 마음을 가지게 될 때 그 때는 주님의 뜻 하나님의 뜻을 구별하는 것이 어렵지 않아 집니다.When we truly love the Lord, it becomes less difficult to recognize God’s will.

그리고 주님의 뜻을 알게된다면 우리 인간도 하나님의 뜻에 순종할 수 있게 되고, 우리가 하나님께 순종할 때 하나님이 우리의 삶속에서 역사하시는 것입니다.And once we know the Lord’s will, we are able to obey. And when we obey, God begins to work in the middle of our everyday lives.

우리가 주님의 뜻을 사모하게 된다는 것은 전적으로 하나님의 은혜입니다.Even this longing for the Lord’s will is completely God’s grace.

우리가 하나님의 인도하심이 아니라면 하나님의 좋으심을 알고 깨달아 하나님의 뜻을 이루고자 하는 선한 마음을 품을 길이 없기 때문입니다.Without God’s guidance, we would have no way to truly know His goodness, understand it, and hold a good heart that wants to do His will.

그러므로 주님의 영광을 구한다는 것은 단순히 종교적인 활동을 늘리는 것이 아닙니다.So seeking the Lord’s glory is not simply increasing religious activities.

그것은 나의 모든 의지를 주님의 뜻에 고정하고, 나의 모든 일상을 주님의 영광을 위한 제단으로 바치는 ‘완전한 항복’이자 ‘영광스러운 통합’입니다.It is complete surrender—fixing all of our will on the Lord’s will, and offering all of our daily life as an altar for God’s glory. It is a glorious integration of life.

사랑하는 사람을 위해 모든것을 해 주고 싶은 마음으로 주님의 뜻을 이루기를 원하게 되는 것이야말로 주님을 향한 완전한 항복이기 때문입니다.Wanting to do the Lord’s will with the same heart that wants to do everything for someone you love—that is real surrender to the Lord.

내가 죽어야 주님이 사십니다. 내가 비워져야 주님이 채우십니다. 내가 주님의 뜻에 온전히 항복해야 비로소 진정한 승리의 생수가 터져 나옵니다.I must die so the Lord may live. I must be emptied so the Lord may fill me. Only when I fully surrender to the Lord’s will does the living water of true victory finally burst out from within.

오늘 이 시간, 우리 자신을 객관적으로 돌아봅시다.Today, in this moment, let’s look at ourselves honestly and objectively.

혹시 우리가 바리새인처럼 ‘자기 영광’이라는 냄새나는 치즈를 수염에 묻힌 채 세상을 탓하고 있지는 않습니까?Are we, like the Pharisees, blaming the world while we still have that “smelly cheese” of self-glory stuck in our own beard?

바리새인들은 자신들의 위선적인 자세를 결국에는 진짜로 믿어 자신도 기만하며 하나님을 대적하는 영적인 타락에 이르게 됩니다.In the end, the Pharisees believed their own hypocrisy so deeply that they deceived even themselves—and fell into spiritual corruption that actually resisted God.

우리는 절대로 바리새인의 길을 걸어서는 안될 것입니다.We must never walk down the Pharisees’ path.

우리에게는 다윗처럼 자신의 영혼을 향해 가만히 명령해 찬양의 자리로 돌려세우는 영적인 결단이 우리에게 필요합니다.Instead, we need the kind of spiritual decision David had: quietly but firmly commanding his own soul and turning it back to the place of praise.

다윗처럼 가만히 우리의 속사람을 바라보다 우리 주님을 향해 하나님을 향해 더욱 더 나아갈 수 있도록 우리 속의 모든것들을 향해 명령하는 영적 거인의 길이 우리가 갈 길인 것입니다.Like David, we should first watch our inner self—and then go further, speaking to everything within us and directing it to move closer and closer toward the Lord. That is the road of a spiritual giant, and that is the road we are called to walk.

우리가 그러함으로 우리의 식탁을, 우리의 사무실을, 우리의 거실을 하나님의 영광이 임하는 성소로 선포하십시오.So declare that your dining table, your office, and your living room are holy places where God’s glory will come.

그렇게 할 때 성령께서 그 곳에 그 때에 우리와 진정으로 함께 하실 것입니다.And when you do, the Holy Spirit will truly be with you—right there, and right then.

여러분이 주님의 뜻을 행하기로 결단하고 전적으로 우리 주님을 받아들이는 그 순간, 성령께서는 여러분의 메마른 심령 깊은 곳에서부터 세상이 감당할 수 없는 생수의 강을 터뜨려 주실 것입니다.The moment you decide to do the Lord’s will and fully receive our Lord, the Holy Spirit will cause a river of living water—something the world cannot handle—to burst out from the deepest, driest parts of your soul.

그 생수는 여러분의 고통을 씻어내고, 여러분의 절망을 소망으로 바꾸며, 여러분을 통해서 죽어가는 주변 이웃들을 살려내는 하나님의 강력한 생명의 힘이 될 것입니다.That living water will wash away your pain, turn your despair into hope, and become God’s powerful life-giving force that brings life to the neighbors around you who are dying inside.

오직 생명은 우리 주님께 있음을 잊지 마십시오Do not forget this: life is found only in our Lord.

우리가 이 땅에 누리는 육신의 생명은 진정한 생명인 영생의 그림자일 뿐입니다.The physical life we enjoy on this earth is only a shadow of the true life—eternal life.

주님께서 우리안에서 터져 나오게 하실 생수의 강을 사모하시길 축원 드립니다.I bless you to thirst for and long for the river of living water that the Lord will cause to flow from within you.

하나님이 허락하실 생명의 생명, 진리의 진리, 환희의 환희, 기쁨의 기쁨이 그 안에서 터져나옵니다.The life of life, the truth of truth, the joy of joy, the delight of delight—God will make it overflow from within you.

그러므로 나의 뜻을 내려놓고 하나님의 뜻에 동참하십시오, 그것이 나의 하나님을 향한 진정한 항복이 됩니다.Therefore, lay down your will and join in God’s will—this becomes your true surrender to God.

그리고 그 항복이 여러분을 진정으로 자유케 할 것입니다.And that surrender will truly set you free.

그 항복이 여러분을 주님의 영원한 생명의 잔치으로 초대할 것입니다.That surrender will invite you into the Lord’s eternal feast of life.

우리 평생의 고백이 다윗과 같이 “내 영혼아 여호와를 송축하라”는 승리의 외침이 되기를, 그리고 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 영광만이 우리 삶에 가득하기를 간절히 축원합니다. 아멘.May the confession of our whole life, like David’s, become a victorious cry: “Bless the LORD, O my soul.” And may the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ alone fill our lives. Amen.
