떠나심이 아닌, 더 깊은 만남

나의 계명을 지키는 자라야 나를 사랑하는 자니 나를 사랑하는 자는 내 아버지께 사랑을 받을 것이요 나도 그를 사랑하여 그에게 나를 나타내리라 (요한복음 14:21절)“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and reveal myself to him.” — John 14:21

사랑하는 성도 여러분,Dear beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,

요한복음 14장은 주님께서 제자들과 이별을 준비하시는 이별의 장입니다.John 14 is a chapter of farewell, where the Lord prepares to part from His disciples.

그러나 이 이별은 우리가 보통 생각하는 그런 이별이 아닙니다.But this farewell is not the kind of farewell we usually think of.

이것은 헤어짐으로 끝나는 이별이 아니라, 오히려 주님과의 더 깊은 만남으로 들어가는 이별입니다.It is not a farewell that ends in separation. Instead, it is a farewell that leads them into a deeper encounter with the Lord.

사라지는 이별이 아니라, 더 깊이 임재하시는 주님을 알게 하는 이별이라는 것입니다.It is not a farewell where He simply disappears, but a farewell that helps them come to know the Lord who is present with them in an even deeper way.

제자들은 지금 자신들의 인생의 정점에 서 있는 것처럼 느꼈습니다.The disciples now felt as if they were standing at the highest point of their lives.

예수님께서 예루살렘에 입성하실 때 사람들은 "호산나, 다윗의 자손이여"라고 외쳤습니다.When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the people shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

3년 동안 예수님을 따라다녔던 제자들의 마음속에는 이제 드디어 때가 왔다는 기대가 있었을 것입니다.In the hearts of the disciples, who had followed Jesus for three years, there must have been a sense of expectation that the time had finally come.

"우리 스승이 드디어 왕이 되시는구나.“Our Teacher is finally becoming King.

이제 하나님의 나라가 눈앞에 펼쳐지는구나.Now the kingdom of God is about to unfold before our eyes.

이제 우리가 꿈꾸던 회복이 시작되는구나."Now the restoration we have dreamed of is beginning.”

그런데 바로 그 순간, 예수님은 제자들이 느끼던 모든것이 원하던대로 이루어지던 분위기와는 전혀 다른 말씀을 하십니다But at that very moment, Jesus says something completely different from the atmosphere the disciples were feeling, where everything seemed to be going the way they had hoped.

"너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라. 하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿으라." (요 14:1)“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” — John 14:1

이 말씀은 참 이상합니다.These words seem very strange.

왜냐하면 제자들은 그 순간 주님이 이제 왕이 되실 순간을 기대하며 들떠 있었기 때문입니다.That is because, at that moment, the disciples were excited, expecting that the Lord was about to become King.

그들은 아직 다가올 일을 전혀 모르고 있었기 때문입니다.They had no idea what was about to happen.

이제 곧 제사장들과 바리새인들의 수족들이 주님을 잡으러 닥쳐올 것을 전혀 몰랐기 때문입니다.They did not know that soon the servants of the chief priests and the Pharisees would come rushing in to arrest the Lord.

그들은 곧 닥칠 가룟 유다의 배신을 몰랐습니다.They did not know that Judas Iscariot would soon betray Him.

주님의 체포를 몰랐습니다.They did not know about the Lord’s arrest.

주님이 십자가에 달리실 것은 꿈도 꾸고 있지 않았습니다.They could not even imagine that the Lord would be nailed to the cross.

군중의 주님을 향한 환호가 "십자가에 못 박으라"는 외침으로 바뀔 것을 몰랐습니다.They did not know that the crowd’s cheers for the Lord would turn into shouts of, “Crucify Him!”

자신들이 흩어지는 양 떼처럼 무너질 것도 몰랐습니다.They did not know that they themselves would fall apart and scatter like sheep.

그러나 예수님은 아셨습니다.But Jesus knew.

예수님은 제자들이 보지 못하는 밀려오는 폭풍을 보고 계셨습니다.Jesus saw the storm coming, a storm the disciples could not see.

그래서 지금 제자들에게 주시는 이 말씀은 제자들의 현재를 보고 하시는 말씀이 아니셨습니다.So the words He gives to the disciples here were not based on what they were experiencing in the present moment.

이것은 제자들에게 다가올 폭풍을 견디게 하는 선제적 처방입니다.They were a kind of early prescription, given to help the disciples endure the storm that was about to come.

잠시 이 장면에 머물러 보십시오.Stay in this scene for a moment.

내일 모든 것을 잃게 될 제자들에게, 오늘 밤 예수님께서 주시는 처방.To the disciples who would lose everything tomorrow, Jesus gives this prescription tonight:

"너희가 곧 흔들릴 것이다.“You will soon be shaken.

너희가 곧 무너질 것이다.You will soon fall apart.

그러나 그때 감정과 싸우려 하지 말고, 너희가 믿고 있는 하나님을 그리고 나를 붙들어라." 라고 하시는 것입니다.But when that happens, do not try to fight your emotions. Hold on to the God you believe in, and hold on to Me.”

성도 여러분, 감정을 감정으로 이기는 것이 가능합니까?Dear brothers and sisters, is it possible to overcome emotions with emotions?

두려움을 향해 "두려워하지 마!"라고 소리친다고 두려움이 사라집니까?If we shout at fear, “Don’t be afraid!” does fear disappear?

근심을 향해 "근심하지 마!"라고 명령한다고 마음이 평안해집니까?If we command our anxiety, “Stop worrying!” does our heart suddenly become peaceful?

아닙니다.No.

두려움은 우리 마음대로 조절되지 않습니다.Fear is not something we can simply control by our own will.

예수님도 그것을 아십니다.Jesus knows this too.

겟세마네에서 땀이 핏방울같이 되도록 기도하신 분이 예수님입니다.Jesus is the One who prayed in Gethsemane until His sweat became like drops of blood.

그렇다면 "마음에 근심하지 말라"는 주님의 말씀은 무엇입니까?Then what does the Lord mean when He says, “Do not let your hearts be troubled”?

이것은 감정을 억누르라는 말씀이 아니라, 묵상의 방향을 바꾸라는 말씀입니다.He is not telling us to push down our emotions. He is telling us to change the direction of our meditation.

죽음만 묵상하면 두려움이 커집니다.When we meditate only on death, fear grows.

상실만 묵상하면 절망이 커집니다.When we meditate only on loss, despair grows.

문제만 묵상하면 문제는 점점 더 커집니다.When we meditate only on our problems, those problems become bigger and bigger.

그러나 하나님을 묵상하면 평안이 옵니다.But when we meditate on God, peace comes.

예수 그리스도를 묵상하면, 상황은 그대로라도 내 영혼의 중심이 달라집니다.When we meditate on Jesus Christ, even if the situation stays the same, the center of our soul begins to change.

1대지. 예수를 알라 — 예수를 아는 지식이 두려움을 이긴다

예수님은 말씀하십니다.Jesus says,

"하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿으라." (요 14:1)“You believe in God; believe also in Me.” — John 14:1

여기서 우리는 중요한 사실을 보게 됩니다.Here we see an important truth.

믿음은 무지에서 생기지 않습니다.Faith does not come from ignorance.

믿음은 아무 근거 없이 눈을 감고 뛰어드는 것이 아닙니다.Faith is not closing our eyes and jumping in without any reason.

예수를 아는 만큼 우리는 그분을 신뢰하게 되고, 그 신뢰 안에서 우리는 더 깊이 예수를 알게 됩니다.The more we know Jesus, the more we come to trust Him. And in that trust, we come to know Jesus more deeply.

앎과 믿음은 서로를 깊게 합니다.Knowledge and faith deepen each other.

알기 때문에 믿고, 믿기 때문에 더 깊이 알게 됩니다.Because we know Him, we believe. And because we believe, we come to know Him more deeply.

제자들은 예수님을 3년 동안 따라다녔습니다.The disciples followed Jesus for three years.

그분의 말씀을 들었습니다.They heard His words.

물이 포도주로 변하는 것을 보았습니다.They saw water turn into wine.

병자가 고침받는 것을 보았습니다.They saw the sick being healed.

오천 명이 먹는 기적을 보았습니다.They saw the miracle of feeding five thousand people.

죽은 나사로가 무덤에서 나오는 것도 보았습니다.They even saw Lazarus, who had died, come out of the tomb.

그들은 예수님을 경험했습니다.They experienced Jesus.

그들은 예수님을 향해 충분히 믿음을 가질만큼 주님에 대해 알고 있었던 것입니다.They knew enough about the Lord to have faith in Him.

그러나 경험했다고 해서 반드시 자신이 겪은 주님과의 동행의 본질을 깨닫는 것은 아니라는 것이 우리가 주의해야 할 점입니다.But this is the point we must be careful about: just because someone has experienced something does not always mean they understand the true meaning of walking with the Lord.

오래 함께 있었다고 해서 그 사람을 깊이 아는 것은 아닙니다.Being with someone for a long time does not mean we know that person deeply.

한 집에서 살아도 모를 수 있습니다.We can live in the same house and still not truly know each other.

한 교회를 오래 다녀도 예수님을 깊이 모를 수 있습니다.We can attend the same church for many years and still not know Jesus deeply.

말씀을 많이 들었어도, 예수님이 누구신지 본질적으로 깨닫지 못할 수 있는 것입니다.We may have heard many sermons, but still not truly understand who Jesus is at the deepest level.

도마가 그랬습니다.Thomas was like that.

도마는 묻습니다.Thomas asked,

"주여, 어디로 가시는지 우리가 알지 못하거늘 그 길을 어찌 알겠사옵나이까?" (요 14:5)“Lord, we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” — John 14:5

도마는 어리석은 사람이 아니었습니다.Thomas was not a foolish person.

요한복음 11장에서 그는 "우리도 주와 함께 죽으러 가자"고 말했던 충성스러운 제자입니다 (요 11:16).In John 11, he was the loyal disciple who said, “Let us also go, that we may die with Him.” — John 11:16

그는 진지했습니다.He was sincere.

그러나 그의 사고는 아직 물리적 세계 안에 갇혀 있었습니다.But his thinking was still trapped within the physical world.

길이라면 목적지가 있어야 하고, 목적지가 있다면 경로가 있어야 한다고 생각했습니다.He thought that if there is a way, there must be a destination. And if there is a destination, there must be a route to get there.

그런데 예수님은 전혀 다른 차원의 대답을 하십니다.But Jesus gives an answer from a completely different level.

"예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라." (요 14:6)“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” — John 14:6

예수님이 이 말씀을 통해 주시는 길은 지도도 찾는 길이 아니라 주님의 인격을 통한 만남으로 찾게되는 길입니다.The way Jesus gives through these words is not a way we find on a map. It is a way we discover through meeting the person of the Lord Himself.

예수님은 천국으로 가는 길을 설명하신 것이 아니라, 예수님 바로 자신만이 그 길이라고 말씀하셨습니다.Jesus was not simply explaining the way to heaven. He was saying that He Himself is the only way.

도마가 찾던 것은 방법이었지만, 예수님이 주신 대답은 주님과의 관계가 답이라는 것이였습니다.What Thomas was looking for was a method, but the answer Jesus gave was that relationship with the Lord is the answer.

그렇습니다 하나님께 가는 길은 어떤 종교적 절차나 영적 기술이 아니라, 예수 그리스도 자신입니다.Yes, the way to God is not a religious procedure or a spiritual technique. The way to God is Jesus Christ Himself.

빌립은 이해할 수 없었습니다, 답답했습니다.Philip could not understand. He felt frustrated.

빌립은 말합니다.Philip said,

"...주여 아버지를 우리에게 보여 주옵소서 그리하면 족하겠나이다다." (요 14:8)“Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” — John 14:8

빌립은 확실한 하나님 체험을 원했습니다.Philip wanted a clear experience of God.

시내산의 불과 구름 같은 영광, 압도적인 신현, 눈으로 확인할 수 있는 하나님을 원했습니다.He wanted glory like the fire and cloud on Mount Sinai, an overwhelming appearance of God, a God he could confirm with his own eyes.

그렇다면 자신이 믿을수 있을 것 같다고 고백하는 것이었습니다.He was basically saying that if he could see that, then he would be able to believe.

그러나 예수님은 말씀하십니다.But Jesus said,

"빌립아 내가 이렇게 오래 너희와 함께 있으되 네가 나를 알지 못하느냐 나를 본 자는 아버지를 보았거늘 어찌하여 아버지를 보이라 하느냐" (요 14:9)“Philip, have I been with you so long, and still you do not know Me? Whoever has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” — John 14:9

빌립이 놓친 것은 무엇입니까?What did Philip miss?

그는 하나님을 예수 밖에서 찾으려 했습니다.He tried to look for God outside of Jesus.

그런데 예수 안에 이미 하나님이 완전하게 나타나 계셨습니다.But God had already been fully revealed in Jesus.

그리고 제자들은 주님과의 삼년의 동행동안 그 사실을 이미 충분히 경험했던 것입니다.And the disciples had already experienced this enough through their three years of walking with the Lord.

하나님의 영광은 천둥과 번개 속에만 나타나는 것이 아닙니다.The glory of God does not appear only in thunder and lightning.

하나님의 권능과 영광은 예수 그리스도의 자기를 온전히 내어주시는 인격 안에서 가장 완전하게 드러납니다.The power and glory of God are most fully revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, who gives Himself completely.

제자들의 발을 씻기시는 주님, 죄인들과 식사하시는 주님, 십자가를 향해 묵묵히 걸어가시고 짊어지시는 주님 안에 하나님의 본질이 그대로 드러나는 것입니다.In the Lord who washes the disciples’ feet, in the Lord who eats with sinners, in the Lord who silently walks toward the cross and carries it, the very nature of God is revealed exactly as it is.

헬라어에는 '안다'는 표현과 관련하여 중요한 차이가 있습니다.In Greek, there is an important difference related to the word “know.”

기노스코는 함께 지내며 경험을 통해 점점 알아가는 앎입니다.Ginosko refers to a kind of knowing that grows over time through experience and relationship.

오이다는 본질을 꿰뚫어 아는 깨달음입니다.Oida refers to a deeper understanding, a realization that sees into the true nature of something.

제자들은 예수님을 기노스코로 알았습니다.The disciples knew Jesus in the sense of ginosko.

3년 동안 함께했습니다.They had been with Him for three years.

그러나 아직 오이다의 깊이, 곧 "이분이 하나님이시다"라는 본질적 깨달음에는 이르지 못했던 것입니다.But they had not yet reached the depth of oida, the essential realization that “this man is God.”

신앙의 성숙은 정보를 많이 쌓는 것이 아닙니다.Spiritual maturity is not simply collecting more information.

신앙의 성숙은 이미 들은 말씀 속에서, 이미 내가 만난 예수 안에서, 하나님의 본질을 발견하는 것입니다.Spiritual maturity is discovering the very nature of God in the words we have already heard, and in the Jesus we have already encountered.

사랑하는 성도 여러분,Dear beloved brothers and sisters,

솔직히 고백하면, 우리 모두가 이 본문 앞에서 숨이 막힐 때가 있습니다.To be honest, there are times when this passage takes our breath away.

말씀으로는 예수가 하나님이심을 압니다.With our words, we know that Jesus is God.

그러나 일이 터지면 제가 먼저 붙드는 것이 말씀이 아니라 숫자와 상황일 때가 있습니다.But when something happens, there are times when the first thing I hold on to is not the Word, but numbers and circumstances.

우리 역시 아직 도마와 빌립 곁에 서 있는 사람들일 때가 있는 것입니다.In the same way, there are times when we are still standing beside Thomas and Philip.

그러니 우리 함께 자신을 돌아봅시다.So let us examine ourselves together.

예배는 드려온지 오래되었지만 우리안에 드러나는 예수의 본질은 희미하지 않습니까?We may have been worshiping for a long time, but has the true nature of Jesus become unclear within us?

말씀은 많이 들었지만 위기 앞에서는 여전히 세상의 논리로만 반응하지 않습니까?We may have heard many sermons, but in times of crisis, do we still respond only with the logic of the world?

예수를 오래 믿었다고 말하지만, 실제로는 예수를 문제 해결사 정도로만 여기고 있지는 않습니까?We may say that we have believed in Jesus for a long time, but in reality, are we treating Jesus only as someone who solves our problems?

주님은 오늘 이 진리로 우리를 초대하십니다.The Lord invites us into this truth today.

"우리가 처한 상황이 바뀌어야 우리가 평안한 것이 아니라, 예수를 보는 우리의 관점이 바뀌어야 평안하다."는 진리입니다.It is the truth that “we do not have peace because our situation changes; we have peace when our view of Jesus changes.”

우리가 예수를 알되 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 본질을 깨달아야 우리안에 두려움이 사라지고 평안이 임한다는 것입니다.When we know Jesus, and when we truly understand the nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, fear disappears from within us and peace comes.

물어보겠습니다.Let me ask you.

우리가 경험하고 알고 있는 우리 주님은 어떤 분이십니까?Who is the Lord whom we have experienced and come to know?

우리의 주님에 대한 깨달음은 주님이 보여주신 나를 향하신 그 한없는 사랑과 희생의 이유를 우리도 깨닫게 할 만큼 깊고 넓습니까?Is our understanding of the Lord deep and wide enough for us to realize the reason for His endless love and sacrifice toward us?

우리가 가지고 있는 주님에 대한 믿음은 나를 둘러싼 두려움과 불안을 몰아낼 만큼 강력하고 능력이 넘치는 믿음인가? 말씀입니다.Is our faith in the Lord strong and powerful enough to drive out the fear and anxiety surrounding us? This is what the Word is asking us today.

2대지. 예수 안에 거하라 — 천국의 문이 열렸다

성경은 말씀하십니다.The Bible says,

"예수께서 이르시되 내가 곧 길이요 진리요 생명이니 나로 말미암지 않고는 아버지께로 올 자가 없느니라." (요 14:6)“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” — John 14:6

이 말씀은 단순한 배타적 구호가 아닙니다.This word is not simply an exclusive slogan.

이것은 존재론적 사실입니다.It is an ontological truth, a truth about reality itself.

왜 예수님만 길이십니까?Why is Jesus the only way?

세상에 길이 얼마나 많은데 오직 예수 그리스도만이 길이 되느냐는 것입니다?There are so many ways in this world, so why is only Jesus Christ the way?

그것은 예수님만이 하나님과 인간을 한 인격 안에서 결합하셨기 때문입니다.It is because only Jesus united God and humanity in one person.

범죄함으로 하나님으로부터 완전히 분리된 인간이 오직 예수 그리스도안에서 온전히 하나님과 연합이 되었기 때문입니다.Human beings were completely separated from God because of sin, but only in Jesus Christ are human beings fully united with God.

오직 예수님만 참 하나님이시며 참 인간이십니다.Only Jesus is truly God and truly human.

그러므로 우리 인간의 천국의 소망은 오직 예수 그리스도를 통해서만 가능한 것입니다.Therefore, the hope of heaven for us human beings is possible only through Jesus Christ.

성자 하나님이 인간이 되셨고, 인간의 몸을 입으신 그리스도께서 죽으시고 부활하시고 승천하셨습니다.God the Son became human, and Christ, who took on a human body, died, rose again, and ascended into heaven.

여기서 우리는 승천의 의미를 깊이 보아야 합니다.Here, we must look deeply at the meaning of the ascension.

예수님은 육신을 버리고 하늘로 가신 것이 아닙니다.Jesus did not leave His body behind and go up to heaven.

부활하신 몸, 영화롭게 된 인간의 새로운 몸으로 아버지께로 올라가셨습니다.He ascended to the Father in His resurrected body, the new and glorified human body.

이것이 무엇을 의미합니까?What does this mean?

천국의 문이 드이어 인간에게도 열린 것입니다.It means that the door of heaven was finally opened even to human beings.

육신을 입은 인간에게 하나님께로 가는 길이 열린 것입니다.The way to God was opened for humanity in the flesh.

죄로 막혔던 길, 인간의 힘으로는 결코 넘을 수 없었던 휘장이 예수 그리스도의 몸을 통해 열렸습니다.The way that had been blocked by sin, the curtain that human strength could never pass through, was opened through the body of Jesus Christ.

히브리서는 그래서 이것을 "휘장 가운데로 열어 놓으신 새로운 살 길"이라고 말합니다 (히 10:20).That is why Hebrews calls this “a new and living way opened for us through the curtain.” — Hebrews 10:20

예수님은 단지 길을 알려 주신 분이 아닙니다.Jesus is not merely the One who showed us the way.

오직 예수님만이 길이십니다.Only Jesus Himself is the way.

오직 예수님만이 천국의 문이 되십니다.Only Jesus Himself is the door to heaven.

오직 예수님만이 하늘과 땅을 잇는 영원한 통로이십니다.Only Jesus Himself is the eternal passage that connects heaven and earth

이것은 우리의 몸에 대해서도 중요한 진리를 알려 줍니다.This also teaches us an important truth about our bodies.

이제 더이상 인간의 몸은 감옥이 아닙니다.Now the human body is no longer a prison.

인간의 몸은 이제 구원의 현장이 되었습니다.The human body has now become a place where salvation takes place.

우리는 몸을 벗어 버리고 구원받는 것이 아닙니다.We are not saved by throwing away our bodies.

하나님은 우리의 영혼만 구원하시는 분이 아닙니다.God is not a God who saves only our souls.

예수님이 부활의 몸으로 승천하셨듯이, 우리도 장차 영광스러운 몸으로 변화되어 하나님께로 올라가 함께할 것입니다.Just as Jesus ascended with His resurrected body, one day we too will be transformed into glorious bodies and go up to be with God.

그러므로 우리의 몸, 우리의 일상, 우리의 눈물, 우리의 노동, 우리의 약함까지도 하나님께서 구원의 자리로 삼으십니다.Therefore, even our bodies, our daily lives, our tears, our work, and even our weaknesses become places where God carries out His salvation.

그것이 우리 주님께서 인간의 몸을 입으시고 이 땅에 오신 이유가 되는 것입니다.That is the reason our Lord came to this earth in a human body.

하나님께서 이 세상에 육신을 입고 내려오시고 또 육신을 입고 승천하심으로, 우리 인간도 이제 육신을 입고 하늘 본향으로 돌아갈 길이 생겼는데,God came down into this world in the flesh, and He ascended in the flesh. Because of that, we human beings now have a way to return to our heavenly home in the flesh.

그것이 바로 오직 하나님이시자 인간되시는 예수 그리스도안에 있다는 것입니다.And that way is found only in Jesus Christ, who is both God and man.

그리고 예수님은 더 놀라운 말씀을 하십니다.And Jesus says something even more amazing.

"내가 아버지 안에 거하고 아버지는 내 안에 계신 것을 네가 믿지 아니하느냐 내가 너희에게 이르는 말은 스스로 하는 것이 아니라 아버지께서 내 안에 계셔서 그의 일을 하시는 것이라" (요 14:10)“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not speak on My own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, who is doing His work.”— John 14:10

성부와 성자는 구분되지만 분리되지 않습니다.The Father and the Son are distinct, but they are not separated.

서로를 혼동하지 않지만, 서로 안에 거하십니다, 하나이십니다.They are not confused with each other, but they dwell in one another. They are one.

이것이 삼위 하나님의 깊은 신비입니다.This is the deep mystery of the Triune God.

그런데 요한복음 14장 20절에서 예수님은 이 신비를 우리에게까지 확장하십니다.But in John 14:20, Jesus extends this mystery even to us.

성경은 말씀 하십니다The Bible says,

" 그 날에는 내가 아버지 안에, 너희가 내 안에, 내가 너희 안에 있는 것을 너희가 알리라." (요 14:20)“On that day you will realize that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.”— John 14:20

잠시 숨을 고르십시오.Take a moment and catch your breath.

이 말씀을 정말 믿을 수 있습니까?Can we really believe these words?

하나님이 나와 함께 계신 정도가 아니라, 내 안에 계시다는 약속.Not just the promise that God is with me, but the promise that He is in me.

내가 예수님 옆에 있는 정도가 아니라, 예수 안에 있다는 약속.Not just the promise that I am beside Jesus, but the promise that I am in Jesus.

이것을 매일 아침 깨어나서 믿고 사는 것이 과연 가능한 일입니까?Is it really possible to wake up every morning and live believing this?

그러나 이것은 우리의 감정이 지어낸 이야기가 아닙니다.But this is not a story made up by our emotions.

이것은 주님이 친히 하신 말씀입니다.This is the word spoken by the Lord Himself.

그리고 주님은 거짓말하실 수 없는 분, 진리 자체이신 분이십니다.And the Lord is the One who cannot lie, the One who is Truth itself.

성도 여러분, 이것이 복음의 핵심입니다.Dear brothers and sisters, this is the heart of the gospel.

우리는 하나님 곁에 겨우 서 있는 사람들이 아닙니다.We are not people who are barely standing beside God.

우리는 예수 안에 있습니다.We are in Jesus.

그리고 예수님은 우리 안에 계십니다.And Jesus is in us.

가지가 포도나무에 접붙여지듯이, 우리는 그리스도의 생명 안에 연결되었습니다.Just as branches are grafted into the vine, we have been connected to the life of Christ.

성자 하나님이 육신을 입고서 이 세상에 오셔서도 성자 하나님과 성령 하나님과의 완전한 연합을 통해 삼위일체의 한 하나님이 되셨듯이,God the Son came into this world in the flesh, and even while He was in the flesh, He remained one God in the perfect union of the Trinity with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

우리도 주 예수 그리스도의 우리를 향한 영원한 사랑안에서 주 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 우리도 예수 그리스도 안에서 삼위 하나님의 생명에 참여하게 된 것입니다.In the same way, through the eternal love of our Lord Jesus Christ for us, and by believing in Him, we have come to participate in the life of the Triune God in Jesus Christ.

그것을 성경이 증거하시고 이 구원과 연합의 길은 오직 예수 그리스도안에서만 증거되고 이루어 진 것입니다.This is what the Bible testifies to. And this way of salvation and union is testified to and accomplished only in Jesus Christ.

그러므로 신앙은 단순한 모방이 아닌 것입니다.Therefore, faith is not simple imitation.

많은 성도들이 예수님을 흉내만 내려고 합니다.Many believers try only to copy Jesus.

그들도 예수님처럼 사랑하려고 하고, 예수님처럼 인내하려고 하고, 예수님처럼 겸손하려고 합니다.They try to love like Jesus, endure like Jesus, and be humble like Jesus.

그런데 자꾸 지칩니다.But they keep becoming exhausted.

왜 그렇습니까?Why is that?

주님과의 연합 없이 모방만 하려고 하기 때문입니다.It is because they are trying to imitate Him without being united with Him.

가지가 나무에서 떨어져 혼자 열매를 맺으려 하면 마를 수밖에 없습니다.If a branch is separated from the tree and tries to bear fruit by itself, it can only dry up.

열매는 가지의 결심으로 맺히는 것이 아니라, 가지가 나무에 붙어 있을 때만 맺히는 것입니다.Fruit is not produced by the branch’s determination. Fruit is produced only when the branch remains connected to the tree.

그러므로 윤리보다 먼저 주님과의 연합이 있어야 합니다.Therefore, before ethics, there must first be union with the Lord.

열매보다 먼저 주님께 접붙임이 있어야 합니다.Before fruit, there must first be being grafted into the Lord.

순종보다 먼저 우리가 주님안에 거함이 있어야 하는 것입니다Before obedience, we must first abide in the Lord.

하나님과 연합한 사람에게는 하나님의 뜻을 이루는 데 필요한 모든 능력이 공급되기 때문입니다.That is because the person who is united with God receives all the power needed to fulfill God’s will.

성경은 말씀 하십니다.Scripture says:

"내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 나를 믿는 자는 내가 하는 일을 그도 할 것이요 또한 그보다 큰 일도 하리니 이는 내가 아버지께로 감이라" (요 14:12)"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father" (John 14:12).

이 말씀의 뜻이 바로 그것입니다.This is precisely what these words mean.

이것은 우리의 욕망이 무한히 성취된다는 뜻이 아닙니다.It is not a promise that our personal desires will be boundlessly fulfilled.

아들의 이름 안에서, 아버지의 뜻을 이루는 일에 하늘의 생명이 공급된다는 뜻입니다.Rather, it means that the life of heaven is supplied to us so that we may accomplish the Father’s will in the name of the Son.

주님이 한 땅에서 하시던 일이, 이제 성령 안에서 모든 성도를 통해 온 세상으로 확장되는 것 — 이것이 '더 큰 일'입니다The ministry the Lord once carried out in a single land is now expanding across the entire world through every believer, empowered by the Holy Spirit—this is the true essence of these "greater works."

그러므로 예수님의 승천은 하나님의 완전한 승리이며 확장입니다.Therefore, the ascension of Jesus is God’s complete victory and expansion.

한 장소에 계셨던 예수님이 이제 성령 안에서 수많은 성도들 안에 거하시며 역사하시게 되었기 때문입니다.Jesus, who had been in one place, now comes to dwell and work in countless believers through the Holy Spirit.

그러므로 주님의 승천은 주님의 떠나가심처럼 보였지만, 사실은 더 깊은 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 임재의 시작이었던 것입니다.So the Lord’s ascension looked like His departure, but in reality, it was the beginning of the deeper presence of our Lord Jesus Christ with us.

한 가지 실천을 제안드립니다.I would like to suggest one practical step.

이번 한 주간, 이 말씀을 묵상하고 고백 하시기 바랍니다.This week, meditate on and confess these words:

"아버지여, 아버지께서 내 안에, 내가 아버지 안에 있는 것 같이 그들도 다 하나가 되어 우리 안에 있게 하사 세상으로 아버지께서 나를 보내신 것을 믿게 하옵소서." (요한복음 17:21)“Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You, may they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.”— John 17:21

열매를 위해 애쓰기 전에, 주님안으로 접붙혀지는 접붙임의 자리에 먼저 서십시오.Before you struggle to bear fruit, first stand in the place of being grafted into the Lord.

그러므로 주님과의 연합 안에서 흘러나오는 생명의 삶을 누리시기를 축원드립니다.Therefore, I bless you to enjoy a life of true life that flows from union with the Lord.

3대지. 성령 안에서 살라 — 사랑의 순환을 살라

그러면 이 연합은 어떻게 우리의 일상이 됩니까?Then how does this union become part of our daily lives?

우리는 어떻게 이 진리를 실제로 살아낼 수 있습니까?How can we actually live out this truth?

솔직히 말씀드리면, 우리만의 힘으로는 할 수 없습니다.To be honest, we cannot do it by our own strength.

아무리 결심해도 우리는 지칩니다.No matter how strongly we make up our minds, we become tired.

아무리 은혜를 경험해도 며칠이면 잊어버립니다.No matter how much grace we experience, we forget it after a few days.

아무리 말씀을 들어도 위기 앞에서 무너집니다.No matter how much of the Word we hear, we fall apart when a crisis comes.

주님은 이 사실을 누구보다 잘 아십니다.The Lord knows this better than anyone.

그래서 주님은 이렇게 말씀하십니다.That is why the Lord says this.

성경은 말씀 하십니다.The Bible says,

"내가 아버지께 구하겠으니 그가 또 다른 보혜사를 너희에게 주사 영원토록 너희와 함께 있게 하시리니." (요 14:16)“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever.” — John 14:16

주님은 우리의 연약함을 아십니다.The Lord knows our weakness.

우리는 안다고 해서 그리고 심지어 하나님의 비밀을 깨달았다고 해도 그대로 살지 못합니다.Even when we know the truth, and even when we understand the mysteries of God, we still cannot live according to them on our own.

사랑해야 한다는 것을 알면서도 미워합니다.We know we should love, but we hate.

주님을 믿어야 한다는 것을 알면서도 두려워합니다.We know we should trust the Lord, but we are afraid.

용서해야 한다는 것을 알면서도 미워하는 마음을 붙들고 있습니다.We know we should forgive, but we still hold on to hatred in our hearts.

우리는 하나님의 형상으로 지음받았지만, 죄로 인해 망가진 존재입니다.We were created in the image of God, but we are beings broken by sin.

그래서 주님은 우리를 고아처럼 버려두지 않으십니다.That is why the Lord does not leave us as orphans.

보혜사 성령을 보내주시는 것입니다.He sends us the Advocate, the Holy Spirit.

'또 다른 보혜사'라는 표현에서 '또 다른'은 예수님과 전혀 다른 종류의 존재를 뜻하지 않습니다.The phrase “another Advocate” does not mean someone completely different from Jesus.

첫번째로 우리를 도와주시던 주님이 이제 하나님께로 가시니 주님께서 이제 다른 보해사를 보내신다는 것이고,The Lord, who was the first One to help us, would now go to the Father. So the Lord would send another Advocate.

이 보해사는 예수님과 같은 본질로, 예수님의 사역을 우리 안에서 계속하시는 분을 뜻합니다.This Advocate has the same nature as Jesus, and He continues the work of Jesus within us.

성령은 예수의 임재가 사라진 자리를 대체하는 분이 아닙니다.The Holy Spirit does not replace Jesus because His presence has disappeared.

성령은 예수의 임재를 더 깊게 우리 안에 적용하시는 분입니다.The Holy Spirit is the One who applies the presence of Jesus more deeply within us.

예수님은 이 성령을 '진리의 영'이라 부르십니다 (요 14:17).Jesus calls this Holy Spirit “the Spirit of truth.”— John 14:17

성경은 말씀 하십니다.The Bible says,

그는 진리의 영이라 세상은 능히 그를 받지 못하나니 이는 그를 보지도 못하고 알지도 못함이라 그러나 너희는 그를 아나니 그는 너희와 함께 거하심이요 또 너희 속에 계시겠음이라 (요 14:17)“He is the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.”— John 14:17

성령은 진리와 함께 일하시며, 예수께서 하신 말씀을 우리 안에서 되살리십니다.The Holy Spirit works together with the truth and brings the words of Jesus back to life within us.

과거에 들었던 말씀이 어느 날 삶의 상황 속에서 빛처럼 떠오르게 하시고, 이해하지 못했던 말씀이 고난 속에서 의미를 갖게 하시며, 단순한 정보였던 말씀이 영혼을 붙드는 실재가 되게 하십니다.Words we heard in the past suddenly rise up like light in the middle of life’s situations. Words we did not understand begin to have meaning in the midst of suffering. And words that once felt like simple information become a living reality that holds our souls.

그러므로 말씀 묵상은 모든 신앙 훈련의 중심입니다.Therefore, meditation on the Word is at the center of every spiritual discipline.

말씀에 깊이 들어갈수록 성령께서 일하십니다.The deeper we go into the Word, the more the Holy Spirit works.

성령께서 일하실수록 예수님이 더 생생해집니다.The more the Holy Spirit works, the more real Jesus becomes to us.

예수님이 생생해질수록 믿음이 자랍니다.The more real Jesus becomes, the more our faith grows.

그리고 그 믿음은 소망을 낳습니다.And that faith gives birth to hope.

소망은 단순한 소원이 아닙니다.Hope is not just a wish.

"이 일이 내가 원하는 대로 되게 해 주세요"는 소원입니다.“Please let this turn out the way I want” is a wish.

그러나 "하나님이 나와 함께하시니 어떤 결과 속에서도 나를 선하게 이끄실 것이다"는 소망입니다.But “Because God is with me, He will lead me in goodness no matter what the result may be” — that is hope.

소원은 상황에 매이지만, 소망은 하나님의 성품에 매입니다.A wish is tied to circumstances, but hope is tied to the character of God.

소망이 있는 사람은 사랑할 수 있습니다.A person who has hope can love.

왜냐하면 두려움이 줄어들기 때문입니다.Why? Because fear begins to shrink.

두려움에 사로잡힌 사람은 자기 보호에 몰두합니다.A person who is trapped in fear becomes focused on self-protection.

그러나 소망이 있는 사람은 자신을 내어 줄 수 있습니다.But a person who has hope can give himself or herself away.

하나님 안에서 어떠한 경우라도 자신이 안전하다는 것을 알기 때문입니다.That is because they know they are safe in God, no matter what happens.

그래서 생명의 순환이 일어납니다.So the cycle of life begins.

깨달음은 믿음을 낳고,Understanding gives birth to faith,

믿음은 소망을 낳고,faith gives birth to hope,

소망은 사랑을 낳고,hope gives birth to love,

사랑은 순종으로 나타나며,love is revealed through obedience,

순종은 더 깊은 임재를 경험하게 하고,obedience leads us to experience a deeper presence,

그 임재는 다시 더 깊은 깨달음으로 우리를 이끕니다.and that presence leads us back into deeper understanding.

예수님은 말씀하십니다.Jesus says,

"너희가 나를 사랑하면 나의 계명을 지키리라." (요 14:15)“If you love Me, keep My commands.”— John 14:15

사랑 없는 순종은 율법주의입니다.Obedience without love is legalism.

순종 없는 사랑은 감상주의입니다.Love without obedience is sentimentalism.

그러나 예수를 깨달은 사람에게서 나오는 사랑은 생명의 사랑입니다.But the love that comes from a person who has truly understood Jesus is the love of life.

그것은 억지로 짜내는 사랑이 아니라, 그리스도와의 연합에서 흘러나오는 사랑입니다.It is not a love we force out of ourselves, but a love that flows from union with Christ.

그리고 이 순환의 끝에, 주님은 우리에게 놀라운 한 약속을 남기십니다.And at the end of this cycle, the Lord leaves us with one amazing promise.

성경은 말씀 하십니다.The Bible says,

"나의 계명을 지키는 자라야 나를 사랑하는 자니 나를 사랑하는 자는 내 아버지께 사랑을 받을 것이요 나도 그를 사랑하여 그에게 나를 나타내리라." (요 14:21)“Whoever has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I too will love him and reveal Myself to him.”— John 14:21

성도 여러분, 이 약속을 가볍게 지나치지 마십시오.Dear brothers and sisters, do not pass over this promise lightly.

주님이 "나도 그에게 나를 나타내리라"고 하셨습니다.The Lord said, “I too will love him and reveal Myself to him.”

우리가 주님을 사랑하고 말씀을 붙들 때, 주님은 단지 멀리서 지켜보시지 않으십니다.When we love the Lord and hold on to His Word, He does not simply watch us from far away.

그분이 우리에게 자신을 더 깊이, 더 선명하게 나타내십니다.He reveals Himself to us more deeply and more clearly.

처음에 우리는 예수를 알아야 한다고 했습니다.At the beginning, we said that we must know Jesus.

그런데 이 앎은 우리가 홀로 성취하는 것이 아닙니다. 우리가 주님을 사랑하고 순종할 때, 주님이 스스로를 더 나타내심으로써 주어지는 선물입니다.But this knowledge is not something we accomplish on our own. When we love the Lord and obey Him, He gives it to us as a gift by revealing Himself more fully.

처음의 깨달음은 사랑을 낳고, 그 사랑은 주님의 더 깊은 자기 계시를 불러오고, 그 계시는 다시 더 깊은 사랑을 낳습니다.The first understanding gives birth to love, and that love invites a deeper self-revelation of the Lord. Then that revelation gives birth to even deeper love.

이것이 연합의 순환입니다.This is the cycle of union.

그리고 이 순환이 일어나는 곳에, 세상이 알지 못하는 평안이 흐릅니다.And where this cycle takes place, a peace flows that the world does not know.

상황은 흔들릴 수 있습니다.Our circumstances may shake.

건강도 흔들릴 수 있습니다.Our health may shake.

관계도 흔들릴 수 있습니다.Our relationships may shake.

계획도 무너질 수 있습니다.Our plans may fall apart.

그러나 그리스도와의 연합은 흔들리지 않습니다.But our union with Christ does not shake.

그러므로 서두에서 예수님께서 하신 "근심하지 말라"는 명령은 더 이상 불가능한 명령이 아닙니다.Therefore, the command Jesus gave at the beginning, “Do not let your hearts be troubled,” is no longer an impossible command.

성령이 우리 안에 계시기 때문입니다.Because the Holy Spirit is in us.

말씀이 우리 안에서 살아계시기 때문입니다.Because the Word is alive in us.

예수님이 우리 안에, 우리가 예수님 안에 있기 때문입니다.Because Jesus is in us, and we are in Jesus.

그리고 주님이 우리에게 자신을 계속 계시하시고 계시기 때문입니다.And because the Lord continues to reveal Himself to us.

성도 여러분, 두려움이나 근심이 몰려올 때, 그 감정과 싸우지 마십시오.Dear brothers and sisters, when fear or anxiety comes rushing in, do not fight against those emotions.

감정을 밀어내려 하지 마십시오.Do not try to push your emotions away.

대신 한 가지를 떠올리십시오.Instead, remember one thing:

"지난 며칠간 내가 묵상한 말씀은 무엇인가?"“What Word have I been meditating on during these past few days?”

그리고 그 말씀을 작게라도 되새기십시오.And even in a small way, repeat that Word in your heart.

말씀이 기억나시지 않으신다면, '주여 이 죄인을 불쌍히 여겨주시옵소서.' 간구 하십시오.And if you cannot remember any Word, pray, “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.”

하나님이 불쌍히 여기시면 우리는 살아납니다.When God has mercy on us, we live.

성령께서 그 말씀을 그 간구를 통해 당신 안에서 일하시기 시작합니다.Through that Word and through that prayer, the Holy Spirit begins to work within you.

언제나 말씀을 붙드십시오.Always hold on to the Word.

연합의 자리로 돌아오십시오.Return to the place of union.

사랑의 한 걸음을 떼십시오.Take one step of love.

그것으로 충분합니다.That is enough.

결론. 떠나심이 아닌, 더 깊은 만남

사랑하는 성도 여러분, 제자들은 예수님의 떠나심 앞에서 무너질 사람들이었습니다.Dear beloved brothers and sisters, the disciples were people who were about to fall apart before Jesus’ departure.

우리도 그렇습니다.We are the same.

병원에서 검사 결과를 기다릴 때, 사랑하는 사람이 떠날 때, 직장이 흔들릴 때, 미래가 보이지 않을 때, 우리는 직면한 상황이 바뀌어야 평안할 것이라고 생각합니다.When we are waiting for test results at the hospital, when someone we love leaves us, when our job becomes unstable, when we cannot see the future, we think we will have peace only if the situation in front of us changes.

그러나 오늘 주님은 우리에게 다른 길을 보여 주십니다.But today, the Lord shows us another way.

첫째, 예수를 깊이 깨달으라.First, understand Jesus deeply.

두려움과 싸우지 말고 더 이상 두려움을 묵상하지 말고 묵상의 방향을 바꾸십시오.Do not fight with fear. Do not keep meditating on fear anymore. Change the direction of your meditation.

예수를 피상적으로 경험하는 데서 멈추지 말고, 그분의 본질을 깨닫는 자리로 나아가십시오.Do not stop at experiencing Jesus on the surface. Move forward to the place where you understand His true nature.

깊이 하나님의 말씀을 묵상 하십시오.Meditate deeply on the Word of God.

하나님의 말씀이신 예수 그리스도를 깨닫게 될 것입니다.Then you will come to understand Jesus Christ, who is the Word of God.

그리고 예수를 깊이 아는 참 된 깨달음이 두려움을 이기는 믿음의 토대가 됩니다.And this true understanding of knowing Jesus deeply becomes the foundation of faith that overcomes fear.

둘째, 예수 안에 거하라.Second, remain in Jesus.

예수님의 죽음과 부활과 승천으로 천국의 문이 열렸습니다.Through the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus, the door of heaven has been opened.

예수님은 길을 알려 주신 분이 아니라, 길 자체이십니다.Jesus is not the One who simply showed us the way. He Himself is the way.

우리는 하나님 옆에 서 있는 사람이 아니라 예수 안에거함으로 하나님과 연합한 하나님의 자녀들입니다.We are not people merely standing beside God. By remaining in Jesus, we are children of God who have been united with God.

그러므로 믿음은, 신앙은 하나님과의 연합입니다.Therefore, faith is union with God.

주님이 그 길이 되어주셨습니다.The Lord has become that way for us.

셋째, 성령 안에서 살라.Third, live in the Holy Spirit.

성령은 진리 안에서 우리를 붙드십니다.The Holy Spirit holds us in the truth.

깨달음에서 믿음으로, 믿음에서 소망으로, 소망에서 사랑으로, 사랑에서 순종으로 우리를 이끄십니다.He leads us from understanding to faith, from faith to hope, from hope to love, and from love to obedience.

그리고 우리가 이 순환 안에 거할 때, 주님은 우리에게 자신을 더 깊이 나타내십니다.And when we remain in this cycle, the Lord reveals Himself to us more deeply.

예수님은 우리를 떠나심으로써 우리 안으로 더 가까이 오셨습니다.Jesus came closer to us by leaving us.

유대에 계셨던 주님이 이제 성령으로 모든 성도 안에 계십니다.The Lord who was in Judea is now in all believers through the Holy Spirit.

육신에 제한되셨던 주님이 이제 부활의 몸으로 하늘과 땅을 영원히 연결하십니다.The Lord who was once limited by the flesh now connects heaven and earth forever through His resurrected body.

이것은 이별이 아닙니다.This is not a farewell.

그러므로 우리의 매일 매일은 예수님과의 더 깊은 만남의 시작입니다.Therefore, every day of our lives is the beginning of a deeper encounter with Jesus.

우리는 예수 안에 있고, 예수님은 우리 안에 계십니다.We are in Jesus, and Jesus is in us.

이 연합을 굳게 붙드십시오.Hold firmly to this union.

상황이 좋지 않아도 평안하십시오.Even when your situation is not good, have peace.

문제가 아직 해결되지 않아도 주님 안에 거하십시오.Even when the problem has not yet been solved, remain in the Lord.

그리고 오늘도 성령 안에서 사랑으로 열매 맺으십시오.And today, bear fruit in love through the Holy Spirit.

주님께서 다시 말씀하십니다.The Lord speaks to us again:

"너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라. 하나님을 믿으니 또 나를 믿으라." (요 14:1)“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.” — John 14:1

주님께서 우리를 붙드십니다.The Lord holds us fast.
