"내 계명은 곧 내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라 하는 이것이니라" (요 15:12)“My command is this: Love one another, just as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)

"사람이 친구를 위하여 자기 목숨을 버리면 이보다 더 큰 사랑이 없나니" (요 15:13)“No one has greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

"이제부터는 너희를 종이라 하지 아니하리니 종은 주인의 하는 것을 알지 못함이라 너희를 친구라 하였노니 내가 내 아버지께 들은 것을 다 너희에게 알게 하였음이라" (요 15:15)“From now on, I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. Instead, I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I heard from my Father.” (John 15:15)

"너희가 나를 택한 것이 아니요 내가 너희를 택하여 세웠나니 이는 너희로 가서 열매를 맺게 하고 또 너희 열매가 항상 있게 하여..." (요 15:16)“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain...” (John 15:16)

[서론]

사랑하는성도 여러분, 오늘 우리는 요한복음 15장 강해 시리즈의 두 번째 시간으로 나아갑니다.Dear beloved congregation, today we move into the second message in our sermon series on John chapter 15.

그런데 성도 여러분, 오늘 두 번째 본문 깊은 곳으로 들어가기 전에, 제가 여러분께 아주 현실적인 질문을 하나 먼저 던지고 싶습니다.But before we go deep into today’s second passage, I want to ask you a very practical question first.

"여러분, 복을 받으려면 도대체 어떻게 해야 합니까?"“Everyone, what exactly must we do in order to receive blessings?”

이것은 우리 모두가 일평생 마음에 가장 깊이 품고 살아온 질문일 것입니다.This may be the question that all of us have carried deep in our hearts throughout our lives.

특히 태평양을 건너와 낯선 이민 사회에서 말 못 할 고생을 견뎌내신 우리 성도님들이라면, 누구나 이 간절한 질문을 가슴속에 안고 사셨을 것입니다.Especially for our church members who crossed the Pacific Ocean and endured unspoken hardships in an unfamiliar immigrant society, this must have been a sincere question you carried in your hearts.

자녀들이 이 땅에서 무시당하지 않고 잘 되기를, 일터와 사업이 무너지지 않기를, 남은 노년이 건강하고 평안하기를, 우리는 새벽마다 눈물로 하늘의 복을 구하며 살아왔습니다.We have lived praying for heaven’s blessings with tears every early morning: that our children would do well in this land and not be looked down on, that our workplaces and businesses would not fall apart, and that the rest of our old age would be healthy and peaceful.

성도 여러분, 세상을 살아가는 이치를 보십시오.Beloved congregation, look at how life works in this world.

한 가지 분명한 진리가 있습니다.There is one clear truth.

'누구를 만나느냐에 따라 받는 복의 종류가 달라진다'는 것입니다.“The kind of blessing you receive depends on whom you meet.”

사업에 수완이 좋은 친구를 만나면 돈 버는 기회라는 복을 얻습니다.If you meet a friend who is skilled in business, you receive the blessing of opportunities to make money.

유능한 명의를 만나면 건강을 회복하는 혜택을 받습니다.If you meet a capable doctor, you receive the benefit of recovering your health.

훌륭한 학자를 만나면 지혜를 얻습니다.If you meet a great scholar, you gain wisdom.

철저하게 우리가 '누구를 만나느냐'가 우리가 무엇을 받을지를 결정합니다.In a very real way, “whom we meet” determines what we will receive.

그렇다면, 만왕의 왕이시며 생명의 주관자이신 주님을 만나면 우리는 무엇을 받게 됩니까?Then, if we meet the Lord, who is the King of kings and the Lord of life, what do we receive?

주님을 만나면 세상 그 누구에게서도 결코 받을 수 없는 복, 바로 '생명의 복'을 받을 수 있게 됩니다.When we meet the Lord, we are able to receive a blessing that can never be received from anyone else in this world: the blessing of life.

이 세상에서 쓰다 버릴 한시적인 복이 아니라, 내 영혼을 영원히 살리는 본질적인 생명의 복 말입니다.This is not a temporary blessing that is used up and thrown away in this world. It is the essential blessing of life that gives eternal life to my soul.

그런데 성도 여러분, 오늘 본문 12절부터 17절까지는 여기서 한 걸음 더 나아가 아주 영광스러운 진리를 우리에게 선포하십니다.But beloved congregation, in today’s passage, from verses 12 through 17, the Lord goes one step further and proclaims a truly glorious truth to us.

"그렇게 주님으로부터 내게 흘러 들어온 생명의 복은 절대로 우리 안에 고여있거나 멈춰 있어서는 안 된다"는 것입니다.“The blessing of life that has flowed into me from the Lord must never stay still or stop within us.”

내게 들어온 복은 반드시 나를 통과하여 다른 사람에게로 흘러가야 합니다.The blessing that has come into me must pass through me and flow to others.

만약 복을 받기만 하고 내 삶에서 그 흐름을 끊어버린다면, 어떻게 될까요?What happens if we only receive blessings, but then cut off their flow in our lives?

강물이 흘러야 생명을 살리는 강물이지, 멈추면 썩은 웅덩이가 되듯, 생명의 복도 흘려보내야 진짜 복이 유지되는 것입니다.Just as a river gives life only when it flows, but becomes a stagnant, rotten pool when it stops, the blessing of life remains a true blessing only when we let it flow out to others.

그래서 주님께서 오늘 본문 12절에서 이렇게 명령하십니다.So the Lord commands us in verse 12 of today’s passage:

"내 계명은 곧 내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라 하는 이것이니라" (요 15:12).“My command is this: Love one another, just as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)

이 명령은 오늘 본문의 끝인 17절에서도 똑같이 반복됩니다.This same command is repeated again at the end of today’s passage, in verse 17:

"내가 이것을 너희에게 명함은 너희로 서로 사랑하게 하려 함이로라."“This is what I command you: Love one another.”

12절과 17절이 "서로 사랑하라"는 같은 명령으로 본문 전체를 처음과 끝을 단단하게 묶고 있습니다.Verses 12 and 17 firmly hold the whole passage together, from beginning to end, with the same command: “Love one another.”

오늘 본문 전체가 우리에게 던지는 단 하나의 메시지는 명확합니다.The one message that this entire passage gives us today is clear:

"네가 받은 생명의 복을 멈춰두지 말고 밖으로, 서로에게 흘려보내라"는 것입니다.“Do not let the blessing of life you have received stop inside you. Let it flow outward, to one another.”

오늘 선포될 말씀의 주제를 먼저 요약해 드립니다.Let me first summarize the theme of the message that will be proclaimed today.

진짜 복 받는 법은 이것입니다.This is the true way to receive blessing.

그리스도라는 참 포도나무에 우리가 '믿음'으로 가지가 되어 붙어서, 주님의 영원한 사랑을 '생명'으로 받아들이는 것입니다.It is to become branches attached by faith to Christ, the true vine, and to receive the Lord’s eternal love as life.

그리고 그렇게 가지로 단단히 붙어 있을 때, 하나님의 생명이 나를 통과하여흘러갑니다.And when we remain firmly attached as branches, the life of God flows through us.

같은 포도나무에 붙은 교회 안의 형제·자매들에게는 영원한 생명 자체를 나누는 사랑으로 흐르고,To the brothers and sisters in the church who are attached to the same vine, it flows as love that shares eternal life itself.

나무 밖 그늘 아래 쉬고 있는 세상의 가족과 이웃에게는 아직 생명의 축복은 아니지만 '그늘과 나무의 열매'로 흐릅니다.And to our family members and neighbors in the world who are resting under the shade outside the tree, it may not yet be the blessing of life, but it still flows to them as “shade and fruit from the tree.”

받음의 차원이 다른 것은 주님의 사랑이 달라서가 아니라, 받는 자의 '믿음의 응답'이 다르기 때문입니다.The reason there is a difference in what people receive is not because the Lord’s love is different, but because the response of faith in the one receiving it is different.

이처럼 가지로 붙어 받은 사랑을 끝없이 흘려보낼 때, 우리는 비로소 그분의 참된 친구이자 영원히 복 받는 자가 됩니다.In this way, when we keep letting the love we received as branches flow out endlessly, we finally become His true friends and those who are blessed forever.

하나님의 생명이 우리 가운데에 넘치기 때문입니다.Because the life of God overflows among us.

오늘 우리는 이 위대한 생명의 흐름의 비밀을 본문이 주시는 세 가지 대지를 통해 깊이 살펴보겠습니다.Today, we will look deeply into the secret of this great flow of life through the three main points given to us in the passage.

첫째, 우리가 어떻게 복을 '받는 자'가 되는가.First, how do we become those who receive blessing?

둘째, 받은 그 사랑이 어떻게흘러가는가.Second, how does the love we have received flow out?

셋째, 그 흐름이 낳는 '영원한 결과'는 무엇인가.Third, what are the eternal results produced by that flow?

차례로 이 말씀의 뜻을 따라 들어가 보겠습니다.Let us now walk through this passage step by step, following the meaning of God’s Word.

[제1대지] 받는 자가 되는 길: 가지로 믿음으로 붙어 생명을 받음 (15:14–15)

첫째로, 본문은 우리가 어떻게 이 영원한 생명의 복을 받는 자가 되는지를 밝혀줍니다.First, the passage shows us how we become people who receive this eternal blessing of life.

본문 14절과 15절을 함께 보겠습니다.Let us look together at verses 14 and 15.

"너희는 내가 명하는 대로 행하면 곧 나의 친구라 이제부터는 너희를 종이라 하지 아니하리니 종은 주인의 하는 것을 알지 못함이라 너희를 친구라 하였노니 내가 내 아버지께 들은 것을 다 너희에게 알게 하였음이라"“You are my friends if you do what I command. From now on, I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. Instead, I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I heard from my Father.”

성도 여러분, 가슴이 벅차오르지 않으십니까?Beloved congregation, does this not fill your heart with awe?

우주 만물을 지으신 창조주께서 흙먼지에 불과한 미천한 우리를 향해 "너희는 나의 친구다"라고 부르십니다.The Creator who made the entire universe looks at us, lowly people who are nothing but dust, and says, “You are my friends.”

여기서 주님은 두 가지 신분을 명확하게 대조하십니다.Here, the Lord clearly contrasts two different identities.

헬라어로 종은 '둘로스(δοῦλος)'이고, 친구는 '필로스(φίλος)'입니다.In Greek, the word for servant is doulos (δοῦλος), and the word for friend is philos (φίλος).

당시 사회에서 둘로스(종)는 단순한 직원이 아니라 노예였습니다.In that society, a doulos, or servant, was not simply an employee. He was a slave.

주인의 의지에 철저히 종속되어 자기 뜻을 가질 수 없습니다.He was completely under the will of his master and could not have his own will.

더 결정적인 것은, 종은 주인이 무슨 마음으로 이 일을 시키는지, 그 거대한 계획이 무엇인지 '알지 못한다'는 것입니다.Even more importantly, a servant does not know why the master is giving him a certain task or what the master’s greater plan is.

그저 맹목적인 의무감과 두려움으로 시키는 일을 할 뿐입니다.He simply does what he is told, out of blind duty and fear.

반면 필로스(친구)는 어떤 존재입니까?But what kind of person is a philos, a friend?

사랑하는 자입니다.A friend is one who is loved.

서로 마음을 나누고, 인생의 비밀을 공유하며, 목적을 향해 자발적으로 동행하는 친밀한 동반자입니다.A friend is an intimate companion who shares the heart, knows the secrets of life, and willingly walks together toward the same purpose.

여기서 종과 친구의 가장 결정적인 차이가 무엇입니까?Then what is the most important difference between a servant and a friend?

종은 주인에게서 '시키는 일'을 받지만, 친구는 주인의 '사랑'을 받습니다.A servant receives “tasks” from the master, but a friend receives the master’s love.

우리가 신앙생활을 하며 주님께 부름 받은 것은 — 교회에서 뼈 빠지게 일하라고 부름 받은 율법의 종이 되는 것이 아닙니다.When we were called by the Lord to live a life of faith, we were not called to become servants under the law, worn out from working ourselves to the bone in the church.

그분의 십자가 생명을 공급받기 위해 부름 받은 사랑하는 친구가 되는 것입니다!We were called to become beloved friends who receive the life of His cross!

가지가 되는 결정적 길 — 믿음

그렇다면 죄인인 우리가 도대체 어떻게 참 포도나무이신 그분께 딱 달라붙은 가지, 즉 영광스러운 친구가 될 수 있습니까?Then how can sinners like us become branches firmly attached to Him, the true vine? How can we become His glorious friends?

14절 전반부에서 주님이 "너희는 내가 명하는 대로 행하면 곧 나의 친구라"고 하셨습니다.In the first part of verse 14, the Lord said, “You are my friends if you do what I command.”

여러분, 이 말씀을 오해하시면 큰일 납니다.Everyone, we must not misunderstand this verse.

죽어라 순종하고 착한 일을 많이 해야만 친구의 자격증을 따낼 수 있다는 조건부의 뜻이 결코 아닙니다.This does not mean that we have to obey until we collapse and do many good works in order to earn a certificate proving that we are His friends.

만약 그렇다면 우리는 다시 무서운 종(둘로스)으로 돌아가 버리는 것입니다.If that were true, then we would simply go back to being fearful servants, or doulos, again.

지난주 포도나무 비유를 떠올려 보십시오.Think back to last week’s illustration of the vine.

가지가 나무에 붙어 있으면 어떻게 됩니까?What happens when a branch remains attached to the vine?

가지가 스스로 용을 쓰고 밤새워 노력해야 열매가 맺힙니까?Does the branch have to struggle with all its strength and stay up all night trying to bear fruit?

아닙니다.No.

그저 나무에 단단히 붙어있기만 하면 — 뿌리로부터 생명의 수액이 흘러 들어와 저절로 잎이 피고 열매가 맺힙니다.If it simply remains firmly attached to the vine, the sap of life flows in from the root, and leaves bloom and fruit naturally appears.

즉, 주님의 명령대로 행한다는 것은 억지로 쥐어짜 내는 의무가 아닙니다.In other words, doing what the Lord commands is not a duty we force out of ourselves.

생명이신 주님께 착 달라붙어 있으니, 그분의 생명이 내 안으로 흘러 들어와 자연스럽게 나타나는 '순종의 열매'인 것입니다.Because we are closely attached to the Lord, who is life itself, His life flows into us and naturally appears as the fruit of obedience.

사랑이 순종을 낳는 것이지, 순종이 사랑을 만들어내지 못합니다.Love produces obedience. Obedience cannot produce love.

그렇다면 우리가 포도나무이신 예수님께 접붙임을 받는 유일한 방법이 무엇입니까?Then what is the only way for us to be grafted into Jesus, the true vine?

사도 요한은 요한복음 1장 12절에서 그 해답을 명쾌하게 선언합니다.The apostle John clearly gives us the answer in John 1:12:

"영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니."“To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

그렇습니다. 오직 '믿음'입니다.Yes, it is only by faith.

예수 그리스도를 나의 구주로 영접하고 믿는 것 — 그것이 바로 생명 없는 막대기 같던 우리가 생명의 포도나무에 접붙임을 받는 기적인 것입니다.Receiving and believing in Jesus Christ as my Savior—that is the miracle by which we, who were like lifeless sticks, are grafted into the vine of life.

요한복음에는 "믿다(피스튜오)"라는 단어가 무려 백 번 가까이 등장합니다.In the Gospel of John, the word “believe” (pisteuō) appears nearly one hundred times.

요한복음 20장 31절은 성경을 기록한 목적 자체를 이렇게 밝힙니다.John 20:31 explains the very purpose for which this Gospel was written:

"너희로 믿고 그 이름으로 말미암아 생명을 얻게 하려 함이라."“These are written so that you may believe, and by believing you may have life in His name.”

그러므로 성도 여러분, 가지가 되어 친구로 격상되는 길은 나의 의나 종교적 공로가 아닙니다.Therefore, beloved congregation, the way to become branches and be raised up as His friends is not through my own righteousness or religious achievements.

벼랑 끝에서 동아줄을 붙잡듯 나의 전 존재를 예수 그리스도께 온전히 내어 맡기는 믿음의 결단인 것입니다.It is the decision of faith to completely entrust my whole being to Jesus Christ, just as a person hanging over a cliff grabs hold of a rope for life.

삼위일체 안으로의 초대

이제 가지로 붙어 친구가 된 우리에게 어떤 특권이 주어집니까?Now, what privilege is given to us who have become branches attached to the vine and friends of the Lord?

15절 하반절입니다.It is found in the second half of verse 15:

"내가 내 아버지께 들은 것을 다 너희에게 알게 하였음이라."“I have made known to you everything I heard from my Father.”

주님은 "적당히 몇 개만" 알려주셨다고 하지 않으셨습니다.The Lord did not say, “I told you only a few things.”

헬라어로 '판타(πάντα)', 즉 '모든 것'을 다 알려주셨습니다.In Greek, the word is panta (πάντα), meaning “all things.”

종에게는 감추지만, 친구인 우리에게는 하늘의 비밀을 남김없이 공유하셨다는 것입니다.What is hidden from servants has been fully shared with us, His friends—the secrets of heaven.

구약 성경의 역사상 이렇게 하나님의 은밀한 마음을 공유받은 '하나님의 친구'는 극소수였습니다.In the history of the Old Testament, only a very few people were called “friends of God” and were allowed to share in God’s hidden heart.

아브라함과 모세뿐입니다.They were Abraham and Moses.

하나님은 소돔을 멸망시키러 가시기 전 "내가 하려는 것을 내 벗 아브라함에게 숨기겠느냐"(창 18:17) 하셨고, 모세와는 "마치 사람이 자기 친구와 이야기함 같이"(출 33:11) 대면하셨습니다.Before God destroyed Sodom, He said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?” (Genesis 18:17) And with Moses, God spoke “face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.” (Exodus 33:11)

그런데 여러분, 이 위대한 족장들과 선지자들만이 누렸던 그 어마어마한 특권이 — 이제 예수 십자가를 믿고 가지가 된 저와 여러분 모두에게 완벽하게 확장되었다는 놀라운 선포입니다!But everyone, this is the amazing proclamation: The incredible privilege that only those great patriarchs and prophets once enjoyed has now been fully extended to all of us who believe in the cross of Jesus and have become branches attached to Him!

더 깊이 들어가 보겠습니다?Let us go even deeper.

주님이 우리에게 알려주신 '비밀'이 무엇입니까?What is the “secret” that the Lord has made known to us?

"내가 내 아버지께 들은 것"입니다.It is “what I heard from my Father.”

영원 전부터 성부 하나님과 성자 예수님은 말로 다 할 수 없는 완전한 사랑과 친밀함 속에서 교제하셨습니다.From eternity past, God the Father and God the Son, Jesus Christ, have shared fellowship in perfect love and closeness beyond words.

그것이 삼위일체 하나님의 신비입니다.That is the mystery of the Triune God.

우리가 예수님의 친구가 되었다는 것은 — 단순히 우리의 사회적 신분이 조금 높아졌다는 뜻이 아닙니다.The fact that we have become friends of Jesus does not simply mean that our social status has been raised a little.

창세 전부터 성부와 성자 하나님께서 영원하고 친밀하게 사랑의 교제를 나누어 오셨습니다.Before the creation of the world, God the Father and God the Son have shared eternal and intimate fellowship in love.

그 신비로운 원탁의 식탁 한가운데로 — 미천한 우리가 초대받아 주님안에 거함으로 쑥 들어갔다는 뜻입니다.And now, we who are lowly have been invited right into the center of that mysterious table of fellowship, and by remaining in the Lord, we have entered into it.

이것이 우리가 예수 믿어 받은 복입니다.This is the blessing we have received by believing in Jesus.

세상이 주는 한시적인 복이 아닙니다.It is not a temporary blessing that the world gives.

삼위일체 하나님의 심장부로 들어가는, 이 우주에서 가장 위대한 복입니다!It is the greatest blessing in the entire universe: entering into the very heart of the Triune God!

[제2대지] 흘려보내는 길: 한 사랑이 두 차원으로 흐름 (15:12–13, 15:8)

자, 이제 나무에 굳게 붙어 그 어마어마한 생명과 사랑을 받았다면, 그 생명은 우리 안에서 가만히 고여 썩지 않고 밖으로 힘차게 흘러나가야 합니다.Now, if we have been firmly attached to the vine and have received such an amazing life and love, then that life must not sit still inside us, become stagnant, and rot. It must flow powerfully outward.

본문 12절을 다시 보십시오.Look again at verse 12:

"내 계명은 곧 내가 너희를 사랑한 것 같이 너희도 서로 사랑하라"“My command is this: Love one another, just as I have loved you.”

여기서 우리가 눈여겨보아야 할 결정적인 단어가 있습니다.Here, there is one very important phrase we must pay attention to.

바로 "-같이"입니다.It is the phrase “just as.”

이 단어는 단순히 "비슷하게 흉내 내라"는 뜻이 아닙니다.This does not simply mean, “Try to copy Me in a similar way.”

그것은 '근거'이자 '모범'을 뜻합니다.It means both the foundation and the model of our love.

우리가 이웃과 형제를 향해 흘려보내는 사랑은 — 내 속에서 내가 짜낸 나의 인내심, 나의 사랑이 아닙니다.The love we pour out toward our neighbors and brothers and sisters is not love that we squeeze out from within ourselves. It is not our own patience or our own love.

우리 안에는 그럴 능력이 본질적으로 없습니다.By nature, we do not have that ability within us.

가지가 자기 힘으로 물방울을 만들어냅니까?Can a branch produce drops of water by its own strength?

아닙니다. 뿌리에서 올라오는 수액을 통과시킬 뿐입니다.No. It simply passes on the sap that rises up from the root.

나를 통해 흘러가는 사랑은 오직 나를 살리신 '그리스도의 십자가의 사랑'뿐입니다.The love that flows through me is only the love of Christ’s cross, the love that saved me.

십자가를 우리를 위해 지신 그리스도께서 우리를 통해 세상으로 흘려보내시는 사랑은 — 오직 주님의 완전한 사랑 하나입니다.The love that Christ, who bore the cross for us, sends into the world through us is only one thing: the Lord’s perfect love.

우리 주님은 교회 식구들은 특별히 100만큼 사랑하시고, 교회 밖의 행인들은 대충 10만큼 사랑하시는 분이 아닙니다.Our Lord is not someone who loves church members especially, with a love of 100, and then loves people outside the church only casually, with a love of 10.

요한복음 3장 16절이 무엇이라 합니까?What does John 3:16 say?

"하나님이 '세상'을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니."“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.”

하나님은 차별 없이 모든 세상을 향해 당신의 전부를 내어주는 한 가지 완벽한 사랑을 부어 주셨습니다.God poured out one perfect love, giving His whole self to the entire world without discrimination.

그런데 그 똑같은 한 사랑이 세상에 뿌려질 때, 놀랍게도 그 결과를 받아들이는 사람의 모습은 두 가지 차원으로 나뉩니다.But when that same love is poured out into the world, surprisingly, the results appear on two different levels, depending on the person who receives it.

요한복음 3장 16절 후반부가 그 이유를 정확히 밝힙니다.The second half of John 3:16 explains the reason clearly:

"이는 그를 '믿는 자'마다 멸망하지 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이라."“That whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

그렇습니다.That is right.

주님의 똑같은 사랑이 흘러갈 때, 어떤 사람은 영원한 생명을 얻고, 어떤 사람은 얻지 못합니다.When the same love of the Lord flows out, some people receive eternal life, while others do not.

사랑은 똑 같은 사랑으로 흘러갔는데 결과가 다른 결정적인 이유는 — 사랑이 달라서가 아니라 그 사랑을 받는 자의 '믿음의 응답'이 달랐기 때문입니다.The love flowed out as the same love, but the decisive reason the result is different is not because the love itself is different.

잎이 무성한 나무를 한번 생각해 보십시오.It is because the response of faith from the person receiving that love is different.

그 나무 밑에서는 누구든지 시원한 '그늘'을 누릴 수 있습니다.Think about a tree full of leaves. Anyone can enjoy the cool shade under that tree.

떨어진 나무의 '열매'를 주워 먹으며 갈증을 달랠 수도 있습니다.They may also pick up the fallen fruit of the tree and satisfy their thirst.

그러나 — 그 나무에 붙어있는 가지가 아니라면, 뿌리에서 길어 올린 '생명의 진액'으로 나눠주는 나무의 '생명을 주는 사랑'은 결단코 누릴 수가 없는 것입니다.However, if they are not branches attached to that tree, they can never enjoy the tree’s life-giving love, which shares the living sap drawn up from the root.

그렇다면 성도 여러분, 우리가 어떻게 이 예수 그리스도라는 참 포도나무에 붙어있는 가지가 된다고 했습니까?Then beloved congregation, how did we say we become branches attached to the true vine, Jesus Christ?

우리는 오직 '믿음'으로 주님께 붙어있는 가지가 됩니다.We become branches attached to the Lord only by faith.

아직 믿음이 없어 주님께 가지로 붙어있지 못한 사람들도 — 주님의 사랑의 '혜택'은 누립니다.Even people who do not yet have faith and are not yet attached to the Lord as branches can still receive the benefits of the Lord’s love.

마치 누구나 큰 나무의 그늘을 누리고 떨어진 열매를 먹을 수 있는 것처럼 말입니다.It is like anyone being able to enjoy the shade of a large tree and eat the fruit that has fallen from it.

하지만, 그 깊은 생명의 은혜, 영혼을 영원히 살리는 그 크신 사랑은 — 오직 우리가 믿음으로 주님께 가지로 붙어있을 때에만 누릴 수 있는 것입니다.But the deep grace of life, the great love that gives eternal life to the soul, can be enjoyed only when we are attached to the Lord as branches by faith.

바로 이것입니다! 나무도 하나고 베푸는 사랑도 하나입니다.This is the point! There is one tree, and there is one love being given.

그러나 받는 자의 믿음에 따라 차원이 달라집니다.But the level of what is received changes according to the faith of the one receiving it.

아직 예수님을 믿지 않아 가지가 되지 못한 내 가족들, 불신자 친척들, 직장 동료들에게 — 우리는 어떻게 사랑을 베풀어야 합니까?Then how should we love our family members who do not yet believe in Jesus, our unbelieving relatives, and our coworkers who have not yet become branches?

우리는 그들에게 내 생명 되시는 예수 그리스도를 주사를 찌르듯이 꽂아줄 수는 없습니다.We cannot inject Jesus Christ, who is our life, into them as if we were giving them a shot.

We can spread that cool “shade” over them.

무더운 세상에 지친 그들이 우리의 그늘 아래로 들어와 잠시나마 쉼을 얻을 때 — 그 쉼이 그들의 마음의 문을 여는 것입니다.When they are worn out by this hot and exhausting world and come under our shade, even for a moment, they can find rest. And that rest can open the door of their hearts.

본문 16절에서 주님께서 "가서 열매를 맺으라"고 명령하신 그 '열매'는 — 단지 좋은 행실의 분위기가 아니라, 복음을 들은 그 영혼 안에 새 생명이 잉태되는 결정적 결실을 뜻하기 때문입니다.Because the “fruit” the Lord commands us to bear in verse 16 when He says, “go and bear fruit,” does not mean just the atmosphere of good behavior. It means the decisive fruit of new life being conceived in the soul of a person who hears the gospel.

이 모든 참된 사랑의 절정이 바로 13절, "사람이 친구를 위하여 자기 목숨을 버리는 사랑"입니다.The climax of all this true love is found in verse 13: “No one has greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

선한 목자가 양을 위해 자기 생명을 던지시는 그 사랑입니다.This is the love of the Good Shepherd, who lays down His life for His sheep.

로마서 5장 8절 말씀처럼 — 우리가 아직 죄인 되었을 때 우리를 위해 죽으신 우리 주님의 십자가의 피 흘리심이 — 바로 그 크신 사랑의 절정입니다.As Romans 5:8 says, while we were still sinners, our Lord died for us. His blood poured out on the cross is the highest point of that great love.

성도 여러분, 그러므로 우리가 이 큰 은혜를 받았기에 — 요한일서 3장 16절 말씀처럼 우리도 형제를 위해 내 시간과 물질과 노력과 자존심이라는 정말 작은 것들을 기꺼이 내어줄 수 있는 것입니다.Beloved congregation, because we have received this amazing grace, we too can willingly give up even small things—our time, our money, our effort, and our pride—for our brothers and sisters, just as 1 John 3:16 teaches us.

그리고 우리가 형제를 위해, 또 세상의 믿지 않는 자들을 위해 그 작은 것들을 내려놓을 때 놀라운 일이 일어납니다.And when we lay down those small things for our brothers and sisters, and also for unbelievers in the world, something amazing happens.

우리가 이웃을 위해 한 그 작은 일들을 "내게 한 것이니라" 하시는 주님 앞에서, 우리의 친구 되신 주님을 위해 자기 목숨을 버린 그 큰 사랑으로 하나님께서 친히 인정해 주시는 것입니다.Before the Lord who says, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these, you did for Me,” God Himself recognizes the small things we did for our neighbors as the great love of laying down our lives for the Lord, who has become our friend.

[제3대지] 흐름의 영원한 결과: 영원한 열매와 기도 (15:16–17)

마지막으로 본문은 — 가지로 붙어 받은 생명을 두 차원으로 흘려보내는 자들에게 주어지는 영원한 결실을 축복하십니다.Finally, the passage blesses the eternal fruit given to those who let the life they have received as branches flow out in two directions.

"너희가 나를 택한 것이 아니요 내가 너희를 택하여 세웠나니 이는 너희로 가서 열매를 맺게 하고 또 너희 열매가 항상 있게 하여 내 이름으로 아버지께 무엇을 구하든지 다 받게 하려 함이라" (요 15:16)“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He may give it to you.” (John 15:16)

먼저 주님께서 분명히 선언하십니다.First, the Lord clearly declares:

"내가 너희를 택하여."“I chose you.”

우리가 이 자리에 앉아있는 것은 — 내가 똑똑해서 주님을 고른 것이 아닙니다.The fact that we are sitting here today is not because we were smart enough to choose the Lord.

에베소서 1장 4절처럼 — 하나님께서 창세 전부터 주권적인 은혜로 먼저 나를 포도나무에 접붙여 주신 것입니다.As Ephesians 1:4 says, God first grafted us into the vine by His sovereign grace before the creation of the world.

모든 시작이 그분의 사랑이었습니다.The beginning of everything was His love.

그리고 그분께서 우리에게 직무를 맡기셨습니다.And He gave us a duty.

"세웠나니" 즉 사명을 부여하신 것입니다.The word “appointed” means that He gave us a mission.

창세기 12장 2절에서 하나님은 아브라함에게 "내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루고 네게 복을 주어 네 이름을 창대하게 하리니 너는 복이 될지라" 하셨습니다.In Genesis 12:2, God said to Abraham: “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.”

"너는 복이 될지라!" 누구에게 복이 됩니까?“You will be a blessing!” To whom will he be a blessing?

누구에게나 복이 되는 것입니다.He will be a blessing to everyone.

복은 내가 움켜쥐고 끝나는 것이 아닙니다.Blessing is not something I receive and then hold tightly for myself.

받아서 흘려보내는 통로가 되어야 합니다.I must become a channel that receives blessing and lets it flow out to others.

나눔이 없는 복은 — 사해 바다처럼 썩어버립니다.A blessing without sharing will rot, just like the Dead Sea.

그래서 주님께서 명령하십니다.So the Lord commands us:

"가서(휘파게테, ὑπάγητε)" 열매를 맺으라 하십니다.“Go” (hypagēte, ὑπάγητε) and bear fruit.

지난주에는 "내 안에 거하라" 하셨는데 — 오늘은 "가라"고 하십니다.Last week, He said, “Remain in Me.” But today, He says, “Go.”

모순이 아닙니다.This is not a contradiction.

나무에 단단히 머물러 생명을 공급받은 가지가 — 이제 그 생명력을 밖으로 뻗어 열매를 맺는 것입니다.A branch that remains firmly in the vine and receives life from it now stretches that life outward and bears fruit.

거함과 가서가 — 한 흐름의 두 측면입니다.Remaining and going are two sides of the same flow.

그리고 여기 가장 벅차고도 영광스러운 약속이 이어집니다.And here comes the most overwhelming and glorious promise:

"너희 열매가 항상 있게(메네이, μένῃ) 하여."“That your fruit would remain” (menē, μένῃ).

지난주에 새겼던 그 단어가 또 등장했습니다.The same word we learned last week appears again.

명령형 '메노(거하라)'가 진화하여 — 이번에는 우리에게서 흘러나간 그 사랑이 영원히 머무는 것입니다.The command form, menō—“remain”—now develops into this promise: the love that flows out from us will remain forever.

성도 여러분, 들으십시오.Beloved congregation, listen carefully.

우리가 이 땅에서 땀 흘려 번 돈과 명예는 죽을 때 한 줌의 먼지가 되어 사라집니다.The money and honor we sweat for in this world will disappear like a handful of dust when we die.

그러나 우리가 흘려보낸 모든 사랑 — 형제에게 흘려보낸 알렐루스 사랑, 비신자 가족에게 베푼 그늘과 향기, 그들에게 전한 복음의 한 마디 — 이 모든 것이 천국 창고에 영원히 머무는 찬란한 상급이 됩니다!But all the love we have let flow out—the allelous love we shared with our brothers and sisters, the shade and fragrance we gave to unbelieving family members, and even one word of the gospel we spoke to them—all of these become glorious rewards that remain forever in the storehouse of heaven!

자녀를 위한 새벽의 한 번 기도, 비신자 친지를 위해 흘린 한 방울의 눈물 — 그 모든 작은 흘려보냄이 영원히 머뭅니다.One early-morning prayer for your children, one tear shed for an unbelieving relative—all these small acts of letting love flow out will remain forever.

마지막으로 본문은 결정적 특권을 약속하십니다.Finally, the passage promises us a decisive privilege:

"내 이름으로 아버지께 무엇을 구하든지 다 받게."“So that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He may give it to you.”

첫째, 믿음 없는 가족들이 속히 생명의 가지로 접붙임 받게 해달라고.First, ask that your family members who do not yet have faith would quickly be grafted in as branches of life.

둘째, 우리가 적절한 때에 입을 열어 복음을 전할 수 있도록 — 성령께서 그 기회와 말과 담대함을 주시도록.Second, ask that when the right time comes, we would be able to open our mouths and share the gospel—and that the Holy Spirit would give us the opportunity, the words, and the courage.

주님께서 결코 외면하지 않으실 것입니다.The Lord will never turn away from such prayers.

이제 주님은 17절에서 다시 처음 출발선으로 돌아오십니다.Now, in verse 17, the Lord brings us back again to where we began:

"내가 이것을 너희에게 명함은 너희로 서로 사랑하게 하려 함이로라."“This is what I command you: Love one another.”

우리가 창세 전부터 선택받고, 사명을 받고, 영원한 상급을 얻고, 기도 응답을 받는 — 이 모든 신학의 최종 목적지는 단 하나입니다.We were chosen before the creation of the world. We received a mission. We will receive eternal rewards. We receive answers to prayer. But the final goal of all this theology is one thing.

멀리 갈 것도 없이 — 오늘 내 옆의 형제자매를 십자가의 생명으로 사랑하고, 내 가족과 이웃에게 시원한 그늘과 복음의 열매를 흘려보내는 자리입니다.We do not have to look far. It is the place where we love the brothers and sisters beside us today with the life of the cross, and where we let cool shade and the fruit of the gospel flow out to our family members and neighbors.

진짜 '복 받는 법'이 무엇입니까?What is the true way to “receive blessing”?

그리스도라는 영원한 참 포도나무에 — 나의 전 인격을 걸고 믿음의 '가지'로 단단히 접붙임 받아, 그분의 생명의 복을 풍성히 받는 것입니다.It is to be firmly grafted into Christ, the eternal true vine, as a branch of faith, entrusting our whole being to Him, and to receive richly the blessing of His life.

그리고 그렇게 흘러들어오는 생명의 복을 나 혼자 움켜쥐지 않고 — 밖으로 콸콸 흘려보내는 것입니다.And it is not to hold that blessing of life only for myself, but to let it flow outward like a rushing stream.

같은 가지로 함께 붙은 형제·자매에게는 알렐루스의 생명 사랑으로, 아직 가지가 되지 못한 가족과 이웃에게는 그리스도의 그늘과 생명의 복음으로 흘려보내는 것입니다.To the brothers and sisters who are attached together with us as branches, we let it flow as the life-giving love of allelous, love for one another. And to our family members and neighbors who have not yet become branches, we let it flow as the shade of Christ and the gospel of life.

그리고 마침내 — 그렇게 우리가 흘려보낸 모든 사랑이 천국 창고에 영원히 머무는 상급이 되는 것입니다.And finally, all the love we have let flow out will become a reward that remains forever in the storehouse of heaven.

나와 함께 가지로 붙은 교회 안의 형제자매들에게는 — 십자가의 눈물로 '알렐루스의 생명 사랑'을 흘려보내십시오.To the brothers and sisters inside the church who are attached with you as branches, let the allelous life-giving love flow out with the tears of the cross.

아직 세상에서 방황하는 가족과 이웃에게는 — 내 삶을 찢어 시원한 '그늘과 단 열매'를 아낌없이 베풀어 주십시오.To your family members and neighbors who are still wandering in the world, tear open your own life and generously give them cool shade and sweet fruit.

자녀가 당장 믿지 않는다고 자책하지 마십시오.Do not blame yourself just because your children do not believe right away.

사랑의 흐름은 멈추지 않되, 그들이 그늘에서 벗어나 생명나무로 자리를 옮기도록 — 눈물로 엎드려 기도하십시오.Do not stop the flow of love. But pray on your knees with tears, so that they may leave the shade and move into the tree of life.

속지 마십시오.Do not be deceived.

새빨간 거짓말입니다.That is a complete lie.

우리는 사랑을 억지로 만들어내는 공장이 아닙니다.We are not factories that force ourselves to produce love.

우리는 그리스도께서 흘려주시는 거대한 생명의 강물을 전달하는 파이프라인일 뿐입니다.We are only pipelines that carry the great river of life flowing from Christ.

내 사랑은 서툴러도 — 나를 통과하는 그리스도의 십자가 사랑은 언제나 완전합니다.Even if my love is weak and clumsy, the love of Christ’s cross flowing through me is always perfect.

오랫동안 연락하지 못해 서먹했던 형제와 자매에게 에게 따뜻한 전화 한 통을 거십시오.Make a warm phone call to a brother or sister you have not contacted for a long time and may now feel awkward with.

가능하다면 식사를 같이 하십시오.If possible, share a meal together.

쑥스럽지만 먼저 다가가 그 영혼을 위해 진실하게 기도해 주십시오. 그것이 생명을 나누는 형제 사랑입니다.Even if it feels a little embarrassing, approach them first and sincerely pray for their soul. That is brotherly love that shares life.

성도 여러분, 우리가 이 모든 결단을 할 수 있는 것은 — 우리 자신의 의지가 강해서가 아닙니다.Beloved congregation, we can make all these decisions not because our own willpower is strong.

우리가 받은 자이기 때문입니다.It is because we are people who have received.

받았기에 흘려보낼 수 있고, 흘려보내기에 더 풍성히 받습니다.Because we have received, we can let it flow out. And because we let it flow out, we receive even more abundantly.

이것이 영원한 생명의 비밀입니다.This is the secret of eternal life.

받은 자는 흘려보내는 자가 되고, 흘려보내는 자는 영원히 머무는 열매를 맺습니다.The one who has received becomes one who lets it flow out, and the one who lets it flow out bears fruit that remains forever.
